hi guys, I'm looking for some new wood grips for my smith and wesson square butt 19. I saw altamont classic panel online and they look really nice but i never could find out the thickness of them? I want something thinner then the factory ones what do you guys recommend?
also would like to see any pics you guys might have

What grips do You have now? The Targets?

There are all sorts of Custom grip manufacturers....In no particular order..... Herretts, Keith Brown, NIL grips, Ahrends, Hoque, VZ, Altamont, all I can think of.

I started doing Customs from Herretts many years back. Fitted to my hand, once I got a psir I liked, sent them back, they put them on file, now all I do is order another set and they are identical to the pattern set.

Be warned...the true Customs, especially in AA or AAA Walnut are expen$ive.

Just about the thinnest grips out there are the Jerry Miculek pattern made by Hogue. I love them for Action Pistol competition, but they aren't for everyone

Old Dog

You beat me to it! Kim Ahrend's grips are great; very nicely made and fit my hand perfectly.

Watch Gunbroker and Ebay for a set of "old" Smith & Wesson target grips. They're smaller, and thinner than the stuff they put out in the 70's and 80's. I've got a set on my Model 15-2. You can't really tell it from the pictures, but you sure can feel it. They will not be cheap.

Barring those, my favorite K-frame grip is S&W Magna's with a BK grip adapter.

I like the Herrett's Detective on my 19-4 but would note that one might want to check whether they can handily eject 6 or only five, one blocked by the stocks.

thanks for the info guys, of all i've seen i really like the altamont classic panels the best, but i can't seem to find the thickness listed on the website? anybody have a pair or a pic showing the thickness? my 19 was made in 1987 i'm pretty sure it's the factory grips on it and they are waay too big for my hands.

went with the altamont classic panel basket weaved, I'll try and get pics up when the get here!
