What happened to 40 caliber?

I may be a bit off topic because I am referencing a 9mm gun. I don't know that they are first time buyers but I am a member of a PSA Dagger F-book group. The reason those guys love the daggers is they are inexpensive & relatively easy to modify. The only thing that is usually complained about is that PSA uses roll pins instead of using solid pins like Glock does. These people are adding RMR's, threaded barrels, compensators, suppressors, etc. They love that platform because it is inexpensive but most parts will interchange with Glock parts. If one watches & pays attention PSA is always offering sales. Recently they had a deal on an optic cut slide with an inexpensive optic included. I didn't buy one but it would be an inexpensive way to see if I would want to go that route. I could always put my original slide back on if I don't like it.
I think you just answered why the .40S&W is going away. If the kits and builders - and therefore the money, press, interest, F-B groups, etc. - are all going into the 9mm shooters there isn’t going to be as much interest or money in .40S&W guns. Yes, to a certain extent, one is the other and vice-versa but, we’re only talking about a few people buying a barrel, maybe two, not a dedicated platform for the caliber.

BTW: Y’all are making me feel old and out of touch. I had no idea there was a F-B group dedicated to PSA builds. :(

That one is just for the Dagger though sometimes other things are mentioned. They say a .40 slide and barrel should not be put on a Dagger frame but I have seen at least one person post that they did & it worked fine. How long it will work fine I have no idea. I didn't know about the group until I bought one & was looking for information.

Edited to add: Of course I'm the weirdo that just bought the pistol & has left it stock & not messed with it other than picking up some OEM Glock magazines.

If only they sold 80% build kits for (S&W) N-Frame and/or (Colt) I-Frame clones like they do for Glock clones. :D I might actually try my hand at that.

PSA has made their money being the internet candy store of the gun world. Willy Wanka, Tim Berners-Lee, Gaston Glock and Mikhail Kalashnikov walk into a bar...

PSA got started off by selling magazines. After Josiah gave up on his OCD with designing their website and would finish it up the next day, he made it live and then went to bed. He woke up the next day and suddenly had 244 orders to fulfill. That's how they got their feet into the door.

Yes. It is. And all the Gen 4s are stronger than the Gen 2s. Funny how people worry that the Gen 4s aren't strong enough for the .40S&W and .357 Sig, but have no concerns whatsoever about the longevity of the G43 and G48, which are considerably thinner and lighter (so we can assume weaker) than any version of G17/19/26.

Then people claim "Well the G43 and G48 were designed for the 9mm!"......and the Gen 4 G22 was designed for the .40S&W. The reason the Gen 5 is wider, likely has a lot to do with the single locking block pin. Why Glock chose to go back to a single pin design, I do not know.

After Tearing one apart and examining it I think it was to done so they could incorperate the amby slide lock.

I kinda wish they would have stuck with 2 pins to keep things a little more stout for hot 357sig but people want amby everthing now for tactical so it is what it is. Increasing that slide mass is the most important thing. Those locking blocks can take a beating though. Most of the cracked frames I see on Glocks (or there clones) originate from that area.

Basically three ways I can see on a glock to ease the slamming.. heavier slide, port the barrel, or run a comp /barrel weight. Somthing like a slide buffer doesnt ease the locking block impact. Springs can only do so much.

Something like a locking block buffer system might be doable (sort of a sandwich block maybe) but you really dont want to promote a bouncing effect either.

Now what I would really like to see is Glock to go modular with a steel chasis system (sig, beretta, ruger) but they have not done it yet. Then you would get a lot more actual frame support and polymer grip housings would not need to be serialized or run through an FFL for purchase. If Glock went that route they would truely be in line with more modern offerings.

The second pin on the locking blocks was always sort of a bandaid approach on Glocks IMO. Even on the 10mms where they seem to originate. Glock beefing up the mass on the gen 5 is actually a better approach. Will it be enough without the second pin for hot 357sig.. not sure yet. I would probably play it safe and at least run a ported barrel on one. Glock is not making a 357sig gen 5 yet last time I looked. Its possible thats the reason but I cant say for sure. Single pin with a heavier slide just might not hold up enough for 357sig

What is Face Book? Never been on it and won’t start now. This and 2 other forums are the extent of my online social networking. Everything else is done face to face or it ain’t worth it.

It's a great way of looking after your circle, tribe, and information sharing. Facebook can be derp about what can be talked about but there are ways around it. Just don't get caught in the things that stir the hornets nest and you won't have problems.

Plus if you ever have a troll in the radar you can block them and they become gone gone never to be seen again and can't see your posts either.
