What have you done in the reloading room today

Hey yall it's been a minute since I updated yall on the Raspberry Pi project.
I got it fully set up with dads help finally this evening.
Used a combo of standoffs we got on Amazon with short cables and spare wood we had laying around. It's not like it's going to the moon, it's sitting in the garage.
So it will be out of the way by way of loosening the wing nut that's holding the long slotted board up.
I have a 21700 cell battery pack for it with two Samsung 5000ah cells. That's in-between the screen and Pi. And then the Bluetooth mini keyboard I got works pretty well actually.
Now I just need to charge the batteries up cause apparently they were dead since I charged them when they came in. It uses the pins on the back of the Pis 40pin accessory connector to power it. Then you charge the batteries with a usbc cord.

So after letting it charge for a bit, I tried to power it but apparently it only gives max power when the batteries are plugged in for some reason. Odd. Oh well. I'll mess with it some more.

30-06 inventory is basically done. I've got a 30 cal can i keep a stash of loaded enblocs in for the range so I don't count them. (JT is my initials so those are my handloads)

Here you can see the Low Voltage Warning it's giving me for some reason... idk what to think. It's plugged in and running off the batteries...

I knew it, I'm bad juju! Sigh..... sorry.
It’s me. I’m a pack rat. I’ve been out looking for deals on old and crappy stuff because I don’t like the new and improved. A 170gr JFP .30-30 at 1900fps kills a deer just fine. I don’t need any ELDMXPFTX copper solid doodad to get the job done. Paper tastes terrible and has no nutritional value (marginal at best) so I really don’t care about how many holes I put in a piece of paper. Touching, apart, solo or in groups.
I stack stuff too high and too close together and sometimes it falls. Not a biggie. Like I said, got my morning stretches done.

😁

Yeah I like the basic soft points as well but the Hornady CX bullets are pretty interesting... need to try some in my 30-06 next...

Looks like a guy is trapped inside the screen!

Hobbled back to room to get ready for range tomorrow. Load mags and such. IF gout cooperates!

I liked the lower charge of WST the bestest so far…

When I started loading shotshell, for some reason, I just settled on WST for my powder. There were no AA heavy duplicate loads that used Unique, at least in my books, and I saw that 'Super Trap' powder... and it looked good to me. It turned out to be a really good, really clean shotshell powder.

I've given up on shotshell reloading, but I still have 2.5# of WST left... these days I use it to made really nice 200grn .45ACP loads. Again, it turned out to be a really good, really clean .45 powder!

Turn it off and back on again. Sometimes that fixes weird stuff.

Annealed a passel of 50/95 ans 45/60 brass. 1st try at it, used a mini drill and a socket, worked out real nice. So after cooling I popped the 50/95s into the tumbler to see if they would clean up, after an hour or so I see that they did not. So I'm wondering if they will clean up after a few hours of SS wet pin tumbling? Or will they forever be off colored at the top?

So I set up the Dillon for 45 acp. Loaded up some longshot, and unique with a mix of 240 grain fmj and xtp’s. Went through 200 primers. Loaded up another primer tube, I have 4-5 of each size, large and small. I flipped it over to push the last primer in to clear the tip and instantly heard them falling all over the floor yes all 100 cleanly made there exit together, I really had to laugh when I tried to flip it back over only to fling them higher up in the air. So I found 97 lol. I put the retaining clip in the tip this time and just got done loading up 97, 200 grain swc with hp-38. Now to step out back and unload some. Hopefully with better results than my loading adventure.

Finally had some time to start processing all this brass...

Sized the 99 .348WCF cases... yes, only 99... there is still one of my pieces of gold out roaming the NV desert. Not realizing the decap pin/neck expander was loose, I trashed 2 more pieces by gouging the case mouth. My Redding dies are nice, but I do not like the expander setup, preferring something like the Hornady elliptical plug. Checked the fired cases for length... and, oh happy day, they are all within my specs.

Sized 200 .308 RP cases, and tumbled them clean. Checking for length, they are all within The Zone for me... so no trimming. I went ahead and primed them up, and marked 25 of them with loose pockets. I was pushing the envelope a bit with those last ladders, and the brass is telling me to stop it. As the RP brass is retired, I will be replacing it with Lapua brass... but only for the Savage 10TAC. I have something like 350 RP's, and I'll replace them, likely, with 300 Lapua.

I pulled those suspect .308 loads the other day, I'm taking that primed brass and moving those to the Savage 99 stash. Those are low velocity cast loads, anyway, so it won't matter. I added 25 more primed cases to the 75 pulled, giving me 100 to M-die and load.

Or will they forever be off colored at the top?

Probably... but I don't know. SS pins might take care of it...

Disassembled and stored reloading room twenty years ago. Now retired, moved and working on putting together a gun storage/reloading room. Safes and cabinets installed. 80% organized, but have two shotshell progressive, two pistol/rifle progressive and a single press, reloading table still boxed. Near term goal is to install new progressive press and get things setup, but right now a bit overwhelmed. I have lots of notebooks with load data from 20 years ago, but have forgotten most of what I knew, so will be using these forums as a resource when I get confused.

That's ok... I've been loading more or less steady the past 30 years and I still get confused.

Just a thought... there are a lot of THR members in California... when you get close to yanking that handle, again, maybe make a shout out to see if someone can meet up and walk you through it, or at least give your process a once-over beforehand.

I loaded up 24 30-06 cartridges, basically M2 ball spec - 150gr FMJBT over 49.5gr IMR4064 and Winchester primers. I loaded 16 in GI brass and 8 in R-P brass. I will shoot 8 of each this week off the bench, to see if there is any difference in accuracy or POI using commercial vs mil spec brass. I hope not, as it will make it easier to get the ammo together for the club CMP matches this year. I will shoot them off the bench using a Garand with issue sites.

I left California a few years ago, but forgot to update my profile. I now reside in friendly Texas. The people are friendly, but the weather..not so much.

An hour of wet wash and it will be like it never happened. Do it all the time on factory and stuff I anneal at home...

My 'M2' load is 47.5grn of either IMR4064 or IMR4895, and any 145-150grn bullet. It doesn't quite clock like gen-u-wine M2, but the targets don't know the difference... but my shoulder does.

I don't know if there are significant differences between commercial and military .30-06 brass... I only have ever shot commercial in mine. I also think the slight download helps with brass life as well.

Well... then you've proven to be a more reasonable person... ;) There's lots of us here in Texas, too... as John mentions, everything in Texas is just a hop-skip-jump away. By airplane.

I've got an older NEF 223 carbine that I keep around the house for varmint control. I recently sent out the barrel to be threaded, and needed to re-zero the scope after mounting it.
First shot the ejector jammed, and I had to run a rod down the barrel to eject the case.
Second shot worked, third shot ejector jammed again.

That's enough.

Took the rifle apart (yeah, that one screw... ) and cleaned the ejector mechanism. Hopefully it's fixed.

I'll try it again in a day or two.
