What have you done in the reloading room today

View attachment 1203596 Part of the reason reloading has been very slow the past few days, is I am “puppy sitting” for my ex/my daughter’s dog. It’s really not much of a bother; he’s a nice little bugger 😁 I should have a pup of my own around pretty quick. he was not with me today, and my daughter is with mom this weekend, so I did get a few things done.View attachment 1203594 I finally got these things primed that have been staring at me for like three weeks! Still takes forever when you’re working with one arm!
View attachment 1203595I took my time, and did some pretty serious cleanup in and around the reloading room. The bench is looking a little better than it has in a while. It is a little difficult when you aren’t supposed to lift anything whatsoever with one hand…

👍Love the dog, really like the bench. That looks like a serious production facility when you want it to be. Very nice. I plan on getting my bench, recently relocated to my garage, done by tomorrow. That's my plan, anyway. I only have a 6' Craftsman workbench that I bought specifically for reloading (circa 2000 ish), but it works for me. I have some minor carpentry work to do to get the homebrew storage shelves back in top shape. Similar to the shelves you have above your bench, but mine are sagging from lack of center support. I have a remedy for that and then I need to do some final straightening and sorting. I should be back in operation by Monday. Again, that's my plan, anyway. If that plan succeeds, then a pic will be posted to celebrate the completion.

Plywood back(in this case repurposed from a table I built my ex-wife right after we were married) is the best to keep the saggies at bay. I bought the bench top in two pieces, (it’s 5/4 edge glued, uuuuuuuuuum… something… not pine, not oak, not poplar… haha) and the slatwall was part of a workbench but has been there since I mounted it in 17 when we moved in.

Excellent.

I would use plywood backing, and in fact have a sheet that would work perfectly, but I need/want to see through my shelves to the back wall. You'll understand when you see the finished pic tomorrow afternoon. Instead, I am using 1" dowel. I am putting two 1" dowel (2 deep) on each shelf in the center, cut perfectly to size, and held in place with Elmers glue putty. I love that stuff. It's strong, holds like glue when pressure is applied, but if you ever need to move something, you can remove it with a little effort. Amazon had 1 inch (12" x 6 pieces) dowels on flash sale for 8 bucks, so it was an easy decision to go that route. My shelf heights are 10", so just a little precision cutting involved.

Been having a hard time with keeping up on all the spent brass that I pick at the "Strange Range".
Pre-washing (mud, its that time of year, I guess) and popping spent primers.
It will get done.

Finally finished loading 300 rounds of 38 special.

I think I've mentioned working in a spare bedroom.........

Anyways all were loaded with Unique touched off by expensive SPP's :fire:.
Top fifty are topped off with my cast 158 grainers and the rest are 125grain JHP.

Have to get the pot fired up before Summer and do a bunch more casting and sizing/lubing bullets.
I'm about out............

Those blocks are homemade.
The bottom two are what my Dad made back in the eighties.
Laminated thick plywood.

The top one is one I made a few years ago out of scrap dunnage from Asia.
Different sizes on each side.
I have no idea what the wood is but it sure is pretty! (in my eyes)
And the quilt?

I spent the morning getting my relocated reloading bench back in business. Relocated from the basement to the garage. Lots of sorting, cleaning and organizing. More work than I had anticipated. I also had to fix the homebrew sagging shelves. I went with 1" dowel, 2 per shelf, cut to size and mounted in the middle to straighten and strengthen the shelves. It worked perfectly. A bit tricky to get the dowel length perfect, but it's done. I also reinforced the shelves with stainless T brackets to stop any side-bend or wobble. I need access to the back wall through the shelving to get to my commercial power strip, and for other small items I am going to hang back there for storage and/or reference, so I did not want to go with plywood sealing the back of the shelves.

The left drawer below the bench top is filled with brass, the right drawer is storing bullets. I realized after sorting and boxing that I have to get back into 9mm. I have enough 9mm components to supply a large platoon. So a 9 mil will be on the shopping list this year as well.

I used to have a good supply of cleaning media and polish, but I must have tossed all that years ago, so that is also on the list. The Midway vibrator is basically brand new. I bought that about 15-20 years ago and never used it.

I also have to mount the 2nd stand behind the powder drop to store my progressive "Piggyback" adapter that sits on top of the Rock Chucker if I want to go progressive. I do plan on using that once in a while just because I have it and might as well put it in service rather than let it sit unused.

There are two metal signs I want to mount above the bench. A Remington Sporting Cartridges sign (you can see a glimpse of that behind the shelves on the right) and the Marlin Firearms sign you see sitting next to the Philips stereo on the garage shelf above the reloading bench shelving. That's just decoration, so as of now, the bench is ready to go to work.

I was going to use Elmer's Tac N Stick to secure the center dowels for the shelves and to secure the bottom of the shelves where they sit on the bench, but I decided instead to go with Gorilla Mounting Putty. That stuff holds like, well, a Gorilla once it sets, but you can remove it with some effort if you decide to move something. Those dowels and shelf bottom sides are under some pressure, so they are not going anywhere anytime soon.

The hard stuff is done. This week I'll actually start reloading. I am looking forward to that. I could not find my large pistol primers, but a local gun shop had some at a reasonable price that I picked up yesterday. I have plenty of small pistol primers. 45 Long Colt will be my first reload project.

I spent the morning putting away yesterday’s finds: 2x Federal 550 packs of .22LR target ($4/ea), 2x Remington Thunderbolt 600-packs ($3/ea), a 100ct of CCI Minimag Velocitor 36gr ($1), and 2x 100ct of CCI Varmint 40gr ($1/ea).
I love me some mini mags. I try and buy the 40grn target only as the poi is diffrent on the 36 and I'd end up wearing out my adjustment knobs.

IT'S TRAP SEASON!!
WOOHOO!!

Stuffing shells. 😎

I envy you. I shot so much Trap, combined with Pheasant hunting in the late 90s/early 2ks that I developed a fairly large hematoma (Lump) on my right shoulder that is, unfortunately, permanent now. Even though I used a recoil pad, and a padded vest, the constant and frequent recoil got my shoulder. I miss shooting Trap. It was my favorite shooting sport. ENJOY!

Shot the 12 rounds of 8208 in 6 Dasher this afternoon (Round 2 of testing. Needs some more, but I could load 31.2 for the match in two weeks and be happy.

So...........I documented it all in the reloading room afterwards. Copied on the hard drive, three external drives, and the drive on my little laptop I'm on in the living area.

An IT fellow once told me.....If you don't have it in three places, you don't own it. Every once in awhile I update the external hard drive I keep in the safe. :)
