What have you done in the reloading room today

Around noon I moved my reloading stuff to the side and DEEP cleaned an old Beretta 92fs I bought for a deal(the owner filed the front sight) plunked all of my 124gr reloads, and got all my stuff to take it out to shoot. It shoots great and is super smooth, but hits 4" high for me. Would probably be perfect if the front sight wasn't filed down.

This evening I sized all of the LC .223 brass I pulled out the other day. Then thought about how I'm going to go about rebuilding the front sight on the Beretta.

Maybe he sighted it in at 100 🤣

Can you get Trijicon sights for it?

Can you get Trijicon sights for it?

It's old enough that it doesn't have a removable front sight... If it did have the dovetail I'd be nabbing a Trijicon or Meprolight front sight for it

To make this on topic, I wonder if you could try to make a custom handload that would match the current front sight at 10 yards??
Now I'm curious and may have to try. It's either that or have the father in law add some metal with the TIG and do a little machining. Hmmm, I think I have some 147's!

Try different distances. If windage is ok, elevation will match somewhere between 1 and 100 yards. Or weld it, whatever works best.

I loaded some test loads with Berrys DEWC in 38 Special nickel plated cases. I’m pushing them with Winchester SPP and Silhouette powder.

I need to find something it likes and the last best load was some Berrys 115 grain 9mm.

Primed 100 Win .38Spl and loaded 50 with the 110gr Kinetic HE over a short ladder of W244: 5.1gr, 5.3gr, and 5.5gr (15, 20, 15). Tomorrow I’ll do the same with Silhouette.

I’m waiting for better weather before testing.

Try using a 6:00 hold..... Should put you close to BE.

Tried loading some 45acp yesterday with Acme 230grn coated RN. I kept getting a little shaving when seating with the Lee die, even with a generous flare and the seating die adjusted for no crimp. I might need to get a Lyman M die and a better seating die. Even when adjusted for no crimp the Lee seating die takes most of the flare out.

Will you use black Bondo?
I found this, this morning.

Love me some Berettas. Have more 92 variants than 1911s:)

And they are all in my reloading room.

Here is a 92D with a fixed front sight drilled for & fitted with fiber optic by WC. Didn’t cost much but don’t recall amount.

Decapped and undersized 9mm I shot yesterday.

For first time ever, I found a failed case I know for certain I shot. This is a head separation which is a bad thing. Right? How bad? Serious question brothers.

Edit: first 9mm failed case.

Elsewhere I updated my ongoing 45acp case longevity test. Since early June, I’ve been doing same with discrete batch of a couple hundred Winchester 9mm. Always 4.5gr Sport Pistol w/115gr RN.

I figure this failed 9mm case has been loaded at least 12 times since June and who knows how many times before that? One or one million for all I know.

(FYI—The other four cases are all splits I found while priming or loading, but since I use range brass, I can’t say for certain if I shot them and they split or if I just picked them up from someone else.)

I'd hoped to get to the range, but the scope that was being held by the Post Office pending our return from Christmas travel wasn't delivered today. Instead, the .284 175 grain AccuBond LRs and 150 grain Swift Scirocco IIs I didn't expect until Tuesday did arrive. So I loaded up a ladder of the Sciroccos for the .280 Ackley.

Mounted the new MEC Jr Mark V 12 ga loader to the bench

Put away all the components that have been gathered over the last couple of days.

BOY, will I ever save some money by reloading shotshells….!!!!! :p

Loaded 5 rounds for the EZ .380. Federal 95 Gr JSP @ .870 to .875 OAL using N-310. Will chrono them tomorrow, and go from there.

That's how I had to shoot to hit the plates, it was weird cuz I'm so used to a combat hold with my VP9!

I was thinking about using some JB weld or quick steel if it would bond worth a crap, and at least get a height measurement that works for me before welding.

I also have a large affinity for Beretta 92's! I'm kinda planning on some cerakote, re-springing, at least a LTT "trigger job in a bag" once I figure out the front sight.

Now back on topic! I started trimming the .223 brass I sized last night.....then got sidetracked again  and put away the Starline .300 Blackout brass and a couple other dies/tools I bought at Brownells, along with installing the "D" hammer spring I bought in my 92.

Miserable weather today so threw another log in the woodstove and put some classic rock on the Bose and sat down at the bench. Loaded 139 158gr Xtreme RNFP over 4.4gr HP-38 w/Winn SPP.. Took a few breaks to do a few sets of push ups and some dumbbell work to break the monotony and get the blood flowing. I find it helps keep me alert during long sessions and at 73 yrs young it's "use it or loose it" time. 20231230_143545.jpg IMG_2526 (2).JPG

I took my “new to me” Square Deal B” apart for a leaning and inspection. Lots of loose parts. Need to replace a few items. Nothing too spectacular. Thinking of shipping it back to see what happens. Not too expensive I think.

Did the Garmin start working?
Yes

Dillion supposedly will refurbish your press for free I think. Just have to pay for shipping at least one way probably.

Cozy. I really should do the exercise thing I keep telling myself. Same weight as I was at 18 but in really different places.
