What have you done in the reloading room today

I spent 2 -3 hours shaking hands with the 'ole Rockchucker today.

Finally finished popping spent primers from last week's range finds.
This "Non-Winter" has really increased the brass stash.
I've found over 800 .223 / 5.56 so far.
That is a lot for this part of the country!

And then I separated that batch of .357 / 38 Spec. that was wet tumbled a couple of weeks ago.
Thought I was smart sizing them as I was separating them.
Save a step?
I dunno..........

Rockchucker is to the right on my messy bench.

Sort of reload stuff. I bought a few hundred extra 44spl brass, a dillion 550 conversion for 38/357, a set of Dillion 38/357 dies and 500 158 grain lead cast bullets today.
I'm going to set this Dillon 550 up for light 357 loads for my grandsonto shoot up at t h e cowboy shoots he is getting into.
Picket up a Marlin 357 magnum lever action today.
I picked up a 1897 -12 gauge pump and two 357 magnum Uberti revolvers that are smooth as snot.

I went into my room and cleaned up and put away every thing from my last session. I now have all the room I need to start taking apart and cleaning rifles, pistols and shotguns used the other day. Getting ready to load up for a couple of original old Winchesters and A Marlin that I have recently put into my collection.

Been a while since I posted.
Charged and seated (100) 223 - 69 gr SMK with the last of my 8208XBR :(
Charged and seated (100) 223 - 69 gr SMK with almost the last of my RL-15. (Nothing wrong with it, but I have plenty of alternatives on hand)
Installed a new extractor, cartridge holder, and spring in the bolt of a Savage B22VSS (22 rimfire)
and
Complete disassembly, cleaning, reassembly of the 'Chucker,,, The first (and probably the last) time I've ever broke it all down.
Why 'the last time'?. It was too clean to justify the effort. (I use plenty of 75W-90 Dino oil on the ram/linkage. I avoid decapping and keep everything wiped down and indoors. IMHO, if one uses enough lube and keeps everything clean, it'll flush out most of the crud automagically.)

Trying to expand my knowledge base I broke out the red dot and my Lee 451-230-tc cast boolit and loaded up a ladder of 45acp. I've worked with red dot a little in 38 but that was it. I'll play with this combination till I have something to document for juniors load notes, and then maybe play with more in 45c. The Lee book said the start and max load was 4.0 grains. Alliant said max was 5.1. I loaded 4.3-5.1 ten each for testing. My inital inclination is that 5.1 will be the load based on max not plus p being the best in 38. Only testing will reveal the truth!!!!! 20240320_165811.jpg

I’ve been loading 5gr of Red Dot under a 230gr in .45ACP for a long time. Lead, plated, jacketed, painted, it doesn’t matter; the same 5gr always works and works well.

Good to know, I guess I'm not barking up the wrong tree.... I just could not get on with the 4.0 Lee load... it seemed short... I hope to run them this range day "Saturday" if not raining...

I’ll be interested to see what happens. I’ve been curious and staring at the old 15lb keg of red dot…

I had an ammo box with probably 350 rounds of mixed 38 special brass with probably 8 different headstamps. I sorted and labeled all of it into ziplock bags and tossed the one headstamp we had issues with “xtreme” something or another. Very hard to read. It all went in bin 86. The whole project went down watching Adam12 and now Kojak ( good revolver shows)
