What have you done to prep for deer season?

Yesterday my oldest son set out two trail cameras for my back in Upstate New York.
One covering two deer trails where they cross the road and the other across the road where i gained permission to hunt on.

Today my brother I hunt with set up a trail cam where he sits and he will be setting another trail cam out at a spot where we see deer all the time.
They have been seeing a small bear in that area.
My oldest son lives about six miles away from where we hunt and he has a bear on his trail cam.

I fly back there on November 13th, on the 14th we will swap out the SD cards and see what has been going threw there.

I’m winging it this year. I haven’t ever really hunted public land real hard and this year I intend to hunt. I haven’t hunted at all in 3 years and change so it will be refreshing. But work, kids, and chores has kept me too busy to do much and public land rules keep me from doing most things anyway... so... I have a boat that runs this year, and I have 2 rifles kinda halfway sighted in (.270 and 6.8spc). I need to go to the range on a day that doesn’t rival a hurricane and finish that off on at least those 2, I might add in the 30-30 and the 7-30 for good measure.

Got back from Cruise #19 Sunday after 10 days of pigging out. I spent 3 or 4 hours the last 2 afternoons scouting and checking cameras. Actually checked out a couple of spots on the farm that I haven't been to before. Saw 6 or 7 deer each day with three bucks seen. Two of them were chasing does. I would pass on the bucks with the biggest about a 15" 8 pt., but it is good to see them checking out the ladies. I always saw deer come out of a steep hillside with thick cedars in years past so I slipped in for a peek. There are two benches running about half way up the hill with well worn trails. I found a spot where I can see both trails without too much brush in the way and may set a camera up to see whats running them. A long shot would be 50 yards at best.

Looks like rain for the next two days so I think I will help a couple of friends butcher their elk. They went to Colorado for 2 weeks and downed two small bulls. Maybe I can finagle a few steaks.;)
