my 3rd .22 ever ownd i got at a pawn shop for 40 bucks, took it apart refinished the stock, reblued the barrle and reciever, then took it back and got 95 bucks. that was in 1988 and i thought i made a killin...wow the good ol days....what i'd give to get anything that shoots for 40 bucks..haha

thinkin bout redoin my '55' remington 572 that i posted a pic of? should i or just leave it be??

How many of the 22's that you own have you purchased somewhere like a pawn shop?

None, but only because the pawn shops around here don't sell guns, or don't want to. By that I mean they want more for a beater than I can buy new in the box for.

I got most of mine from one big local dealer. They were almost all used. One came from Wal-Mart.

Deerhunter!!!

Man, maybe you have already posted that you got one in another thread, but, if not, get off the computer and get to buying! Then comes the fun part, you can shoot it! I replied to your post in October:banghead:

Just pickin' a bit, please forgive.

I just came in third in an unannounced tourney at my gunclub . . . My 1 CZ in a host of Anshutz. I didn't even get any snobbish looks from the Annie owners. YOU WILL NOT REGRET PURCHASING A CZ452. If you like iron sights, get the Lux, if you want Optic Only, get the American. You may find other guns you like better, but you won't want to get rid of the CZ even if you do . . . I've tried almost all readily available. Hell, buy one new off GunBroker, they won't break the bank.

One last prohecy into the future of your life . . . you're going to buy a CZ452 Lux and love it . . . soon.

Just so everyone knows...I have purchased a 452! After I purchased mine and realized just how great a rifle it was I was looking for a second one to buy for my father-in-law...Shopped for a month around here...Dallas Area....and did not find one. Finally settle on a Browning T- bolt. He is still trying to find some ammo that shoots good enough out of it to beat me.

Wolf Match Extra. Shoots extremely well through all of my 452s and T-Bolt (new model) without going to high end ammo. Very slightly more consistant than Match Target through my guns but that load (MT) is also a good one to try out.

10/22 hard to go wrong, bolt action I just traded one of my SKS's for a 68 Winchester bolt action, it came with a factory peep site and a hooded front site, beautiful balance, I fired it 2days ago, popped clays at 150 yrds.

22LR

I've had a few 22LR rifles and mine would be in the following order:
1) Winchester 52B

2) CZ453
CZ453001.jpg

3) Ruger 10/22

Wolf Match, Fed Gold Medal, Ely, CCI, & Blazer 22LR ammo

I have a CZ 452 Varmint with a Timney trigger and McMillan stock, and a New Ultra Light Arms .22lr. By the time I brought the CZ up to the NULA they cost virtually the same. Both are outstanding rifles that can put round after round into the same whole at 30-50 yards. I can not say if they are the best, but I am extreemly happy with both. My wife and I can go to the range and put 500 rounds down range for very little cost. They both handle like our larger caliber rifles so we can train/keep the musle memory of shooting without going broke or beating ourselves up.

latisimusd

Those are some nice rifles there...which one is your favorite?

I was wondering if any of you use your 22s to prepare for hunting season. I am talking about target shooting as well as hunting squirrels and/or rabbits to prepare for big game hunting each year? If so how do you think it helps you?

I'm thinking one of Spikes complete 22lr uppers resting on the AR lower of your
choosing plus a few 27 round Black Dog mags would be about as good as it gets.

anschutz, all you will ever need.if you must have a semi, thompson/center will crush all others, unless you can find a CZ semi...

in a .22, the barrel is everything.

Anschutz mates a match quality barrel with their world class M-54 action. it just doesn't get any better. it set such a standard that Cooper...oops, Wilson now... used it as a basis for their line of superb rimfires

What makes the CZs good? I know there are better rifles but are there really any better more accurate rifles for your money than a CZ?

Based on all the info provided in this thread the concensus is that the CZ is about the best for the money 22 rifle out there...at least for $500 or less anyway...

One of the factors that seems to be a player in the CZ's ability to be more precise is the amount of constriction i nthe bore from receiver to muzzle. The CZ guns have tighter bores than comperable guns in the same price range.

The CZs are, IMO from my experiences, the best value of the currently produced rimfire guns under $500. The new Browning T-Bolt, at least my sample, seems to possibly be as good, however, they are just over $500. You will, though, get your occassional ringer needle-in-the-haystack marlin Mod 60, Ruger 10/22, 77/22, etc. that just so happend to be put together in such a way with all of the planets aligned that will get you accuracy as good as a CZ out of the box, but generally speaking, the CZ will shoot rings inside of them.

My CZ is giving me fits. Sometimes it shoots, sometime it doesn't. I also had to try a couple different ring and scope combos. It's a 452 Special. I maybe should have bought an American or Varmit. The action and trigger are good, I like the iron sights. It's a nice rifle for the price but I can't say it's the most accurate .22 I've shot. It is picky about ammo and needs more attention than I like to give a rifle. Kinda reminds me of a certain woman.

i love my savage mark II. can shoot a fee off a dog's ass at 100yds! no joke put 1 round into the primer on a 9mm brass at 25yds. shoot acorns out of trees freehand. got mine at Dick's 4yrs back for $150. it came with a simmons 3-9x90 scope. and have put 2000+ rounds through it without a single problem! i love that gun and with ammo going up you can still get 500 rounds for about 15 bucks or less.

Anshutz and Cooper I thought were target 22's? I am looking for hunting 22's.
Anschutz can also be had in "sporter" form. I think some of them will still have target actions, which makes them more accurate.

In my opinion, Anschutz would be better than cooper. You see the Anschutz (their target version, not the sporter version) at the olympics, but coopers aren't there. I believe that you can get that same design, but in sporter form, if you buy an Anschutz. (It won't be quite as accurate as the target versions, but should still be very accurate.)

Also, Cooper endorsed an anti-gun politician, possibly to drive some competitors out of business.

Yeah 9mm, I tried a couple things, turns out the sling screw stuck too far. I filed that down, sanded the channel some as it was tight on one side and it's better. Today It shot much better, 1/2 inch at 25 yards. It is picky on ammo too. That's with cheap ammo and not off a bench so I am hopeful and feeling much better about my new CZ.

Every CZ that I've ever seen was tight on one side of the barrel channel. Check out the CZ section of rimfire central for more info.
