What is the general consensus on MDT Chassis?

If you're OK with spending north of a grand, there are plenty of custom actions available. Here's a few:

I'm also a bit soft on the Remington 700. Not the action, the bolt -- in particular, the brazed-on handle and riveted extractor. You can sometimes source new stripped 700 actions from Midway or Brownells, which when mated to a PTG bolt seems a more solid choice to me:

Just a thought experiment for me -- I'm not even pretending that I'm in this class of precision shooters.

I hadn't set an overall budget, but I think with the chassis, action, accessories, etc I want to be not much more than $1600. Which seems to be more than doable.

It's something to look at for sure, long as it has the same footprint for the standard Savage short action to fit the chassis.
They do have fut the new chasis. But you may need screws unless they send screws with the chasis for the 12 action.

One thing i forgot to mention is the different picatiny mounts that savage has. The 12fv has the round kind. Some actions have a flat type.

If you ever have any questions there is plenty of info on Savage Shooters web page.

As far as the 12FV action goes its been used by many for precission rifle bulds. Just remember to order a blueprinted lug with the barrel.

Looking forward to seeing what you end up doing.
