I'm not saying it's flat-out impossible to get a good-to-excellent condition JM Marlin 39a for $280.00 these days, but it's gonna be close to it. Looking at GunBroker, there were a couple of examples severly underpriced, but the vast majority were at or over $500.00. Which would tend to make me think that the less expensive offerings were not even good-to-excellent in the seller's mind. Now if I remember correctly, Remington couldn't give the Remlin 39's away & has "revised" their production schedule. Perhaps that period has passed, but I haven't heard that the Remlin 39a is tearing up the .22 rimfire market lately either.
Why take a chance, get a CZ.
