I would appreciate opinions/suggestions as to what is the most durable, accurate and well built rimfire rifle for around $300. It will be used for long distance target shooting. My budget for the rifle and the scope is somewhere around $500. Thanks for your suggestions. Much appreciated.

Savage makes a pretty good slew of .22s thwt would fit your needs. Ruger now has target versions of the American that should also be pretty nice. Then there are the classier guns like the CZs.

Accuracy wise, pretty much all of them will shoot very well. I honestly dont think any are consistently more accurate, tho im sure we all have one or two experiences to say one is or isnt. Major differences will be the stocks, the benchrest style stocks on the savages might be preferable if your gonna be doing alot of benched shooting.

Truth be told while ive shot all but the ruger target models (ive shot a standard model) and owned a couple savages. The gun i own now is a Mossberg 802, its very accurate, and affordable, but rough around the edges.

If I wait a little while and save up a bit more cash so that I can bump up the price range would I be doing myself a favor in the long run or are the 22lr rifles in this $300 range just as good as those that are in the $500 range. Thanks again everyone for the help.

You'll mostly be buying refinement. If its worth it to you to get a more refined and classier gun than saving up is def worth it. For performance/cost rario i think the 300-400 dollar range is about ideal.

CZ452 or 455. If you're talking "long range" shooting, there is no contest. Durability and reliability would be an even heat between the Marlin bolt gun & 60, Ruger American Rimfire, 77/22, and 10/22, Savage Mark II & 93E's, and the CZ's, but when it comes to accuracy, the CZ will take the others down every day of the week - which is something I don't enjoy saying, since the Marlin 60 is one of my favorite firearms of all time, and since I'm a Ruger and Savage fan, and since I'm NOT in love with the idea of foreign made firearms. But like Sig, Glock, and Benelli, the CZ 452, 455, and 550 have won me over for their sheer performance.

Bottom end 455's run $350 around here, worth every penny.

Savage Mk II with accu-trigger and laminated stock. The best in your price range.

Except for the horribly designed magazines. They are truly awful. I have one with the synthetic stock and it's a great shooter, but the magazines keep falling apart.

CZ is nice. It's hard to choose a best gun in this category. Almost every decent company makes a good 22 rifle. I suggest you make your choice based on how they feel and how they fit your hands.

Not a lot of folks know about these and you may have to have someone order it for you. They come with a match grade barrel sized about 1/2 way between the carbine and target rifle. Mine is just under 7.5 lbs scoped making it ideal to carry and not too light to shoot accurately. They have the same trigger as the target model. Mine easily out shoots my CZ-425.

I have a CZ 455. Not sure what other rifles are out there because after researching the purchase awhile it became apparent to me that CZ had a very good reputation as a target rifle. I certainly wasn't disappointed. Maybe out of your budget but if you want accuracy that's your rifle.

I'll cut through the noise for you. :)
If you want the option of shooting with open sights in addition to a scope get a CZ 452 Trainer. https://www.kygunco.com/Product/View?ItemNo=41335
or https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog.../products_id/31193/CZ+452+Training+Rifle+22lr

If you want to shoot with scope only get a CZ 452 American. https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog...3_972/products_id/31194/CZ+452+American+.22lr

If you're determined to stick to your budget or prefer a synthetic stock, here's another option. https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog...id/84799/CZ-USA+CZ455+American+22LR+Black+SYN

Like many here I've been shooting for more than 50 years and have owned well over 100 nice guns. The CZ 452 rimfires are at the very top of the list of guns that I think other shooters will like very much even if they've never seen one before. The most likely downside is that you won't be able to stop at just one CZ. :) Check out this forum to learn more: http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=18

I'd recommend the CZ 452 American too. I have a Lux, no glass on it, and like it. The trainer and lux stocks aren't ideal for a scope.

On my long range 10/22 rig (more than $500 all in...), i have and recommend a Mueller scope.

I'm looking into having a mag machined so it actually works for mine.

Ruger LVT
I agree with this. I have had no end of trouble with my CZ 455, but my LVT has required nothing but mounting a scope to achieve sub-MOA accuracy with mini-mags. Probably not the best ammo for long range shooting because of funny trans-sonic behavior, but I'm sure there are other loads that would work well for OP's needs.

Thank you all for your time and suggestions. They were very helpful as i research and narrow in on my new rig. Happy New Year to you all!

The Savages I've shot, shot very good, I'd also look at the Ruger.

I just can't stand the assbackwards safety on the CZ's, so I saved even more and went UP to an Anschutz.

I've gone through three benchrest rifles. Mossberg, Savage and Remington. None of them would outshoot my CZ452 American, with the same glass, off the same rest, on the same day.

The majority of people responding to this thread are telling you to get a CZ.

Unless you want to pony up the bucks for an Anschutz, I'd listen to them.

I've used half a dozen magazines through my Savage rimfires and have yet to experience a problem.

What you're really getting with a CZ is refinement and walnut. And a backwards safety.
easy fix if the mag is a problem, get a new mag. I wore one out already, but I bought two to begin with. Easy fix, super accurate, made here!

Have to say if you want what answers your original question, the Savage Mark II is hard to beat. I have three .22's. A Savage, a Ruger 10/22 Target and a model 46BT Mossberg. The BT stands for beater I think. Made between 1938 and 1939 with special sights (that who knows where they went, plus a target forearm on the stock. It is the most accurate of the three. But the Savage always hold its own. Likes my 80's vintage Federal Standard Velocity. I got the Troy Landry version because my dealer made an error when ordering. Can't go wrong for that at $300. If you want to move up the price scale then all sorts of other models could also be considered. Maybe you only need the best, most accurate 22 at $300. If you need more the CZ is a winner. Everyone I know who has one, likes it a lot.

I'm going to join the rest of the gentlemen in saying "find a CZ452". Pick it up, a Mueller APV, and BKL rings - you will not be disappointed! You could likely make it work for about $550 all in.
