What is the most recent knife you bought?

Not exactly bought but Santa left them under the tree. The Gerber Dime I've wanted to replace. The Nibbler I blame HSO for putting it on my radar. I'd been wanting a replacement to my Boker Nano and this one with 20CV and canvas micarta fits perfectly. The VG10 Feather pattern stainless damascus chef's knife. Love my Kershaw/KAI Wasabi kitchen knives but wanted something in a better steel and to look pretty on the MagBlock. 20221226_080058.jpg

Nice looking feather on the outside making for a pretty san-mai. The VG10 should do the job in the kitchen. Do you use a hammer grip or a pinch grip when working with the knife?

I generally use a pinch grip but the angled bolster on this one its going to take some getting use to. Filet knife or dressing deer with a smaller knife I switch to the accuser grip so I can "feel" with the tip.
My next kitchen knife will probably come from the Makers section over on Bladeforums.

I recently bought a Civivi Dogma, for under $40 on Amazon. My daughter needed a decent quality pocketknife, so I bought her one, and liked it enough upon inspection that I got myself the same model, in green. I like it a lot so far. D2 blade steel, G10 handles, ceramic bearings, reversible pocket clip (tip up only), smooth action, solid lockup, zero blade play. All for a price that won't make you cry if you lose or break it.

What do you think of Ultem for use in making scales?

Polyetherimide is probably structurally suitable, but my only concern would be whether it would be too smooth and therfore slippery. It would be cool looking with the amber color.

I love mora knives. They sharpen to shaving sharp and hold an edge very well. The upper end knives have gorgeous birch wood handles. All are well built and fit the hand very well.

I stopped by Smoky Mountain Knife Works yesterday. I was hoping to pickup a small Mora that I saw online. They were out of Mora knives with the exception of a serrated and a little short wide blade Knife that I'm not sure what I would use it for. I did find this Marttini Condor 11cm. The guy at the counter said that they are similar to the Mora in the design and steel used in the blades.

I like my Marttiinis! The old birch handled fillet knives did a great job on walleyes at a price anyone could afford. The rubber handle models offer a secure grip, a good blade and good sheath for the money. That knife will serve you well.
