What is the ridge on the bottom of the slide that pushes forward on the case head to strip the round out of the magazine called? I think I need to deburr mine, and I realized I don't know the jargon for that feature.

Also called "disconnector" rail. Note the little "scoop" toward the rear. This allows the disconnector to move up to allow the sear to disconnect the hammer!

It would have to be really bad to affect slide function. Pictures would help.

Smiles,

The area in question is called the central slide rail on page 83 of Jerry Kuhnhausen's excellent reference book The U.S. M1911/M1911A1 Pistols & Commercial M1911 type Pistols - A Shop Manual (Volume 2):

4. Breech Face - The cartridge seat and breech face area below the seat must be sufficiently smooth to allow unimpeded cartridge feeding and cartridge rim engagement by the extractor. The 45-degree edge break at the coincidence of the bottom of the breech face and the central slide rail must not exceed the ordnance specification of .001"+.006".
