Hi all. Just joined. Plz forgive my start on learning curve of all things THG. I hope this is the right place to ask for help identifying any info regarding a gun I saw on an amatuer video posted on Facebook & pointed-out by an online news piece today. You can see the gun I'm referring to just a few seconds into the video. (Most of the video afterwards is just different guys trying to get a feel for the weapon). Video was taken by a group of Libyan fighters trying to figure out what they had just found from a Pro Gaddafi sniper that had fled. I have no idea what they are saying: http://goo.gl/KRjhv I know Gaddafi hired a bunch of mercs from Eastern European countries several months ago. I am just just curious what make & model it is, which country & company of origin & specs, etc. To me, it looks like a recoilless sniper rifle with an under-barrel grenade launcher and an advanced (digital?) scope. From the size of the grenade launcher's barrel, and the section behind it, it would seem a grenade cartridge is not inserted. Or could it be using an advanced & much shorter high-explosive grenade? I'd imagine this would be a type of Special Forces gun from some unidentified country. Any help identifying it would be appreciated, (even directions to a better place to look for it? :-/) Thanks all.

It looks like an FN F2000. The F2000 and its civilian counterpart the FS2000 are not a sniper rifles. You can google them for more info. And yes it appears to have a grenade launcher on the bottom.

Looks like an F2000 with the grenade launcher and weird but cool scope/red dot/whatever it is.. I think the sight has some sort of electronic correlation with the grenade launcher. Bullpup chambered in 5.56x45. Made by FN Herstal in Belgium. You can buy a semi automatic from FNH USA for under $2k if memory serves me.

Its a FN2000. A 5.56 (same round as AR15) select fire weapon with a FN grenade launcher and a FN optic on top. Produced by FN Herstal in Belgium. They also make a semi-automatic civilian version, the FS2000 for commercial sales, obviously without the grenade launcher. It isn't a recoilless sniper or anything, it has normal recoil and is chambered for the intermediate 5.56. It is piston operated IIRC. I couldn't see FN designing it to take anything other then the standard NATO 40mm grenade so thats probably what goes in the GL.

The military version does have a tie in between the scope and the grenade launcher

To be fair, I started typing my response before there were any other answers.. But you'll probably still get at least 3 more people telling you that it's an F2000.

Ahmad: "What the hell is this thing, Mohammad?"

Mohammad: "I don't know, but it's got a really cool scope. Let's aim it at that wall over there and have everybody check it out."

Farooq: "Hey, I'll take the magazine out first."

Mohammad: "Heck, no, you won't! My ears are still ringing from when you 'unloaded' that FAL last week. Get your hands off it before you hurt somebody."

Ahmad: "I get to look at it first!"

Sharif: "No fair! I'm next."

Mohammad: "Karim, call Nabil and see if he can find somebody to unload this stupid thing before somebody gets shot."

Karim: "Nabil! Nabil! answer your stupid radio, Nabil!"

(Mohammad walks around and shows off his new camera. Mohammad posts interesting 6 minute video on Facebook.)

The Libyan government bought a small number of FN2000s a while ago, so that one was likely captured from a military unit or depot.

They were in Qadaffi's home town, perhaps even in one of his compounds, so that would not surprise me that they captured it from a Qadaffi supporter.
