I loved my BH convertible... but, it was a SA - and a bit slow to load. I was switching over from my G21 and semi-auto's in general, and had lots of .45 ACP ammo to shoot up. It was great fun, but opened another door - the .45 Colt.
Three years ago, I added a 4" 625-8 in .45ACP/AR to my collection. I tried to wear it out over the next twenty months - probably at least 8-10k rounds through it before I sent it 'home' for a tightened b/c gap. A range-mate offered me a lot more than a new one ran - knowing it had just come back from S&W the day before. I said 'good-bye' to the ACP-launcher - even gave away my moonclips, AR speedloaders, and ammo. I reasoned that, since it was a full-lu, and I don't like full-lugs, I'd never miss it. My wife found the stash-o-cash, and we had a nice Gulf Shores vacation - the last before Ivan, Dennis, and Katrina would re-arrange that area.
Within days, I missed that revolver. It was a frugal big bore... and, only when I cleaned it would I notice that full lug. It would be nearly seven months before I would replace it with another 625-8 4"-er... the new-for-05 625JM I have mentioned here since buying mine in early Feb... great bargain! I am trying to wear it out, too... of course, as it is just fun. I reload, so I can detune it a tad - using 4.5gr Titegroup under a 230gr Berry's plated FMJ gives ~805 fps and a fast-to-follow-up plinker. The AR's I load from mild on up - great little rounds! I won't let this one go... it is the finest, most fun straight from the box (Almost - I did swap the hammer spring for a Wolff reduced power... and only use Federal primers, of course!) .45 ACP launcher I have ever owned. I can live with the satin SS and full lug, and that "J M" logo... sorry Jerry Miculek, my wife say's it means 'John's Money'!
