Dog walking not during hunting season, my S&W Model 12-2 is usually on my hip since it doesn't weigh much and is plenty accurate for snakes and other vermin, including 2 legged ones. During hunting season, my S&W Model 65-1 is more likely since you have to have a 4" barrel to hunt deer in these parts.
However, with the increase in feral hog activity in our area, I'm tempted to carry my 4⅝" Ruger Vaquero Bisley in .45 Colt loaded with HSM 300 grain JSP "Bear Loads."

Ratshooter I had one those Single Sixes in .32 H&R Magnum and thought at the time it would make for a fine trail gun as well.

Bannock I have lighter 32 mag guns like my holy grail gun which was a S&W model 631-1 with 4" barrel and adjustable sights but the Ruger single action just really appeals to me. Normally the grip on a larger single action like like the SBH in 44 mag is too small for my hand but this little gun is just perfect. At 32oz its not too heavy and rides just fine on a regular belt without pulling my pants down. And I have shot loads for it if needed even though I only kill snakes if there is no way to let them go. ANd I have two of them. One for each of my sons when I no longer have any need for them.:(

If I’m out on a hike I’ll drop a j-frame in my pocket, which is my CC gun most of the time anyway. I rarely do IWB carry in the woods because I probably have on a day pack or a child-carrier backpack, and IWB carrying doesn’t work well with the waist strap on those packs.

But the gun I carry out in the “woods” the most often isn't a revolver, it's my LCP. I do a decent amount of wade fishing, and the LCP works well for me when I’m wearing light swimming trunks. I also like having a semi-auto that’s easy to clean at the end of the day since this gun will inevitable spend a lot of time submerged while I’m fishing.

I like the S&W 629, with ratshot in the first couple chambers, for brush- stomping. Venomous snakes are the issue, here.

Hi...
This topic seems to come up in various versions pretty regularly.
Most often in the woods or mountains, hiking or hunting I will carry one of several N-frame S&W revolvers in .45Colt, .41 Magnum or .44Magnum. Sometimes a Dan Wesson in .44Magnum.
I also carry one of several BlackHawks in any caliber that trips my trigger from .357 on up to .44Magnum depending on my mood.
The caliber carried generally depends if I am in a part of the state that has black bears.
In southern Pennsylvania, I generally carry a .357 or .44Spl.revolver. I am more concerned with rabid animals or feral humans than anything else and because of that I also carry one of my 1911s in .45ACP in the small of my back.

Lessee. I dont go camping and if I'm in the woods I would probably be lost.

If I were to wonder about i would likely choose one of these 2 revolvers.

An excellent S&W 4" 617 that will stack 10 rounds on top of each other or,

An old school charter arms 'undercover' 38 special because I think it's pretty cool and accurate enough for what it is. 20180806_184629.jpg

Dog walking not during hunting season, my S&W Model 12-2 is usually on my hip since it doesn't weigh much and is plenty accurate for snakes and other vermin, including 2 legged ones.

Use to do the same thing while walking the dog only my revolver of choice back then was a S&W Model 38. It didn't weigh much, was very handy in my coat pocket, and was more than adequate for both the 4 legged wild animals as well as the 2 legged ones!

I don't have to worry about about dangerous critters around here just 2 legged vermin on the occasion, so My woods gun is usually a S&W model 65 4 inch or one of my 1911's. I also always carry several reloads as well.

While I do own several revolvers from .357Magnum down to .22LR, the one I have that probably makes the best overall "fit" for my most-likely needs and carry requirements would be my "poor man's SP-101", a stainless Taurus M85 with its three-inch barrel. A close second would also be a Taurus, a four-inch-barreled M94, also in stainless.

If I'm up in WNC (where I spend some time almost every summer), though, it might be my Police Service Six, with black bear in mind.

Im always ' in the woods' around here, so, my everyday go gun, a 637 Smith, is always on my person. If I go elsewhere, a 25-5 .45 Colt goes with, or a Ruger .22-22mag. Depends on what im doing or where Im headed.

I use to have a Rossi Model 88 that was a lot like your S&W Model 60. It was stainless steel, had a 3" barrel, a semi-adjustable rear sight, but was chambered for .38 Special. Made for a great Kit Gun and was perfect for carrying around all day while hiking.

Wish i had a photo but i must have deleted a bunch off my phone. My choice for open carry in the mountains outside my Las Vegas home and when I'm in Nevada's rural counties is a four inch S&W Model 22-4 in .45 ACP. Bought a few years back during the ammo crunch as a companion to my 1911s to go to a single caliber. Tend to wear it strong-side when in on foot or riding and cross-draw when in the truck, and a handful of moon-clips in my jacket pocket or pack.

Either a 4" DB 38 sp,or a 4" 629...... depends on the neighborhood,haha.
