I heard an animal sound, while hunting this morning, that I couldn't identify. This surprises me since I've spent my life outdoors, and thought I'd heard every kind of animal call that one can hear in this part of the world.
It was just about the time of first shooting light; something was coming through the woods to my left, making a loud call that sounded like, "RRRURRR! RRRURRR? RRRURRR!".....
The only thing I could guess was some coyote sound I'd never heard before, but I've heard a lot of coyotes, and never heard anything like that. As it was making the call, a pack of coyotes about a half-mile away started howling....but so did everything else....great horned owls, turkeys, etc. It got the whole countryside stirred up.
Later I told the property owner about it, and he said he'd heard that sound before, too, but he had no clue what it was either. Does anyone here have any idea what it might have been?
