What one single firearm would you choose as a gift?

I'd like a nice full-otto Model A UZI with all 4 caliber conversions ... 22LR, 9mm, 41AE & 45ACP

Simple: I have what I "need" but have always wanted a Winny Model 94 .30-30 Golden Spike edition....

If you want Solomonson I can send you my FFL's address!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just sold one that I bought at an estate sale for a song, still unfired but could only find the inner box ... I knew it was worth more but I sold it to a buddy for $450

Their still out there!

Gotta go with one of my hero's favorites. I want a Model 70 Winchester Super Grade in 270 Win. That's right, Uncle Jack, I've wanted one for 55 years.

Jack used a Featherweight in a custom stock.

Winchester made a reproduction in limited numbers a few years ago. They still turn up at premium prices

That might well be my choice too.

Remington 40x Sporter repeater .22lr in a high grade with the fancy wood and engraving. Sure, it won't shoot any better than a CZ, but I will look good on the firing line.

I am normally old-school but I have always had a sentimental fondness for the FN P90... Not the PS90 civilian model. Of course, I don't see them being legal any time soon so ...

Last year my boss wanted to gift me a special reward for 45 years of service. She chose (after discussion with my sons) a Colt, 1911, .45 acp. Seemed like the right choice for me. So, I guess I did this last year! fun 'n games

I'd be willing to bet it WOULD shoot better than a CZ...

If nothing else, AT LEAST the safety would work in the RIGHT direction! lol

If you can't fix the problem with a 12 gauge pump, it is one hell of a problem.

Ithicas are nice, older Winchesters (pre-1200) and any Mossberg.

DM,

My shooting buddy has a 40x sporter ... It is pretty and currently worth a small fortune. However, it does not shoot any better than a CZ, Rem 541S, Sako Finnfire, or a few other quality sporters.

I really want a Barrettes chambered in .416 Barrett, but that's more than I can afford. And I don't really like to ask for nicer things than I could/would buy for myself.

But one of these days I'm going to have a Big Horn Armory Model 90, gifted or not. A nice lever action in .460S&W. Then I'll have to get an X-Frame in .460 to go with it.

Probably some kind of (transferable?) M16. All the benefits of the AR15, plus a giggle switch.

If it came down to it, I could probably save up a couple grand for something I REALLY wanted. It would take a long time, but it would be doable. $30k? Less so.

Then THAT would have to be an exceptionable CZ! FAR from the average CZ!

My buddy had a 40X sporter and that's probably the most accurate 22 I've ever fired in my life. I would take it easily over the 52's I've fired over the years.

I have a couple 541-S', they are VERY accurate, along with some others...

What, for shooting cows?

One could hunt with an H&H 4-bore. So long as they were stout of frame and heart...
Oh sure, you 'could' hunt with a 20lb rifle that takes brass costing upwards of $50 per each and stomps the shooter almost as much as the target. The distinction being that I probably 'will' hunt with a Merkel .500 and I don't need some mythical person to give it to me first. You see, I was playing along with the spirit of this thread and then you chose to throw a personal jab over arguments made in a completely unrelated discussion.

I can only assume you're referring to the Texas longhorn in my avatar. What you don't know is that several years ago I stumbled across some very interesting load data from Hodgdon utilizing heavy cast bullets in the .44Mag and .45Colt. It pretty much dispelled the idea that the .45 beat the .44 in every way. After meeting much resistance in discussing this issue, I set about to prove the data right and level the playing field, which involved extensive testing. I tested the data for velocity in near-identical guns and tested the loads for penetration, which included about $700 worth of SIMTEST ballistic media. The loads were also confirmed by an independent lab. The results of these tests were published in "The Gun Digest Book of Hunting Revolvers". Then came the ultimate test involving about a $3000 investment in a trip to Texas for a live bullet test on the 1800lb longhorn in my avatar, in a group of 8 hunters involving the taking of 10 large bovines including water buffalo and watusi. So yeah, I might shoot another "cow" with the .500NE to test something other than the typical roundnose solid. It's a good exercise before going after Cape buffalo and/or elephant. With the understanding that solitary water buffalo are more likely to charge than Cape buffalo and are on average 500lbs heavier. And for the record, these critters don't just stand around in a field waiting for you to shoot them. When you're on foot, they know they're being hunted and they don't like it too much.

It would be something that I couldn't go out and buy. Something with enough intrinsic value to me that I would not want to sell.
I can't think of a rifle that I wouldn't sell given a "good" price. However a Colt Python with 8 inch barrel and an unmounted 2x Leopold scope. I would take any of the three finishes, blue, nickel or stainless steel. I would prefer nickel, but over time sometimes nickel finishes are fragile.

Smith & Wesson Triple Lock Target in .44 Special or Smith & Wesson 3rd Model Target in .44 Special. Just saw a post-war transitional 3rd Model Target go for 10k on gunbroker. Way too rich for my blood, but I'd sure like to have one to shoot. I've got a post-war transitional .38 Outdoorsman, and I like the long action with the barrel rib and post-war sights.

A lot of the longhorns you see now a days aren't near as aggressive as they used to be, but they didn't make it as feral cattle for no reason.

Perhaps your buddy has an exceptionally accurate sporter or my buddy has an exceptionally inaccurate one....lol.

I have a non-US marked, factory HB 40x and shoot with probably a dozen others. Nearly all if them are consistently more accurate than the 40 sporter in our group....The owner uses another gun in our matches.
