My handgun collection, with my 25-5 and CZ-97B, is far from complete. I'm contemplating several guns for the near future.

-Ruger Redhawk 5.5" Stainless, .45 Colt: A nice companion to my 25-5. Trigger may not be as nice, but it'll handle the really hot loads I want to shoot with ease.

-Taurus 450 2" .45 Colt: A 5-shot .45 Colt snubby. I don't currently have a concealed weapons license, but I plan on getting one this year and I really like this piece.

-Ruger GP100 4" Stainless, .357: I don't currently have a .357, so some people feel that's a good enough reason to get one.

-Sig P245 .45ACP: A good compact carry .45 Auto. I really like this pistol and can get one for about $550, I believe.

YOu know, as much as I love my CZ-97 I've been having this fascination with revolvers, ever since I picked up the 25-5. As I said, the 25-5 isn't strong enough to be the "ideal" .45 Colt six shooter for me, but it's so nice that I'll likely never part with it.

In any case, my ideal wheelgun right now (it changes from time to time) would be a Ruger Redhawk, stainless, in .45 Colt, with some kind of larger rubber grips and the barrel shortened to about 4.5". I'd have to have the last one done custom, but it'd be cool because then I'd have a gun that was fairly unique...

Still, I agree, that little Sig Sauer is very nice. I'm tempted...

I voted for the taurus because I initially thought you said you were already reloading 45 Colts, but whether you are or not, either the taurus or the Sig. If you're contemplating concealed carry, both are decent calibers in small packages. In my experience, the smaller/lighter the gun, the more you'll carry. My best friend carries a sig 228, it goes with him when he's driving the company car (per policy) or if he's expecting trouble. My carry gun is a S&W 340PD, goes with me almost everywhere. My brother carries a Kel-Tec 32. I gave him plenty of grief about the caliber and make, but it shoots ok and the right ammo is marginally effective. More importantly he carries 100%, everywhere he goes. Not only that, I have to ask him every time, because I can't see it in his pocket.

Almost forgot, you said your next gun, not your last gun :D If you'll need something for concealed carry soon, go for it, no deadline on rounding out the rest of your collection.

I voted for SIG, everything else is a compromise including HK's. :p <-- HK owner who prefers a SIG.

If you're considering CCW, I'd have to vote for the SIG. If you're wanting to hunt, the Redhawk would be nice.

I voted for the SIG.

My vote is the Taurus 450. Small, light (sort of, or truely light in titanium), powerful, reliable. It is on my list too (I've had one calling my name for a bit over a year now, I regret that I've waited though I have had some other guns that seemed a higher priority as there is no CCW in MD). Seems like an interesting gun to me and if you may get a CCW soon it would make a great carry gun (especially since I know you have mentioned before that you are partial to big bores).

GP 100, .357 magnum.

Versatility (low powered target .38's all the way up to .357 magnum 200 grain "Black bear" loads--such as the Cor Bon Penetrator). Cheap factory ammo (.38 special). Controllable, accurate, and fun to shoot.

IMO, a .357 magnum is a very valuable piece to any handgun collection.

I am usually not much of a revolver guy. I have owned two Rugers and three S&W's, and I have enough experience to know that I can shoot a semi better. But there is just something about the 5.5 inch Redhawk that intrigues me. They have good heft, and they feel like they are built like a tank. I think that I may get either a GP-100 or a Redhawk at some point in the future.

However, if you need a CCW gun, I would suggest you buy it next.
You never know when you may need to tuck a gun into the small of your back and go. Because of that, I would go with the SIG.
I carry my P-225 quite often. It is about the same size as the 245, but it is a 9mm. I can conceal it with just a T-shirt in the summer.
I did carry a .38 snubbie (S&W 2" M-60) for a little while. I found that the cylinder makes a revolver kind of uncomfortable to carry, and that it didn't conceal as well as my bigger 9mm.
Because of that, I would be hesitant about carrying the Taurus .45. Get one if you want it, because you know what works for you better than any of us, but I personally would prefer an auto for CCW.

The GP 100 makes the most sense!

If you don't have a .357 you should! Great flexibility of choice as far as ammo is concerned. Won't take much to improve the trigger. Tough as can be and really fun to shoot. Good shooting;)

Out of the guns you listed I would get the Sig or the Ruger GP100 with a 4" barrel and adjustable sights. The Sig would serve you very well as a CCW and IMHO every shooter needs a .357 in their collection. My favorite sig is the 229 but that's just me. By the way, I have a 5.5" stainless Redhawk in .44 mag and its a fantastic gun. I really recommend the Pachmayr Presentation grips for it, they work much better for me than the Hogues. Have fun shopping, Mike

Yes, I am a Geek, and yes, I have a .45

It's Sig P245 flavored.

Heft it, make sure the short grip doesn't bother you, it's not for everyone. Other than that, you can't go wrong.

Another tip: get a few sig p220 magazines, which fit the 245. That gets you 8 rounds in the spare mag.

My current rig calls for the 6 shot mag +1 in the pipe, + 1 spare 8 shot mag = 15 rounds handy.

Also, for a while they came with AO sights.

Think twice about these. Inside 10 yards, they'll reduce your response time. Outside 10 yards, they'll reduce your accuracy. It's a real problem @ 25 yards, because the big dot is larger than a Q target.

New Gun

I wasn't going to play this game, because I had made a resolution not to buy any guns in 2003 (the safe is FULL).

Oh well, it tuns out it's going to be a Walther/Manurhin .32 PP to replace one I had stolen about 8 years ago. Just a classic, fun gun.

Nightcrawler:

I have to put a vote in for the Valtro. My girlfriend (not a gunnie - yet) says that it is the 'sexiest' gun I own... I have to agree, in so far as a piece of metal can be sexy.

No collection is complete without an 1911.

I voted for the Taurus, have one, like it a lot.
Very shootable, and also concealable.

But I really like the Redhawk too.
