What was once lost is now found. :)

Was out at a rural range on a weekday and found a suppressor on one of the other benches. Called over the owner, who lives on the property, and we were puzzling over whether we could even legally touch it when the can's owner called in a fright and said he'd get there to retrieve it as soon as he could. Dang.

Found a really nice AR at the range sitting with Bipod legs extended in the 100yd range, I recognized the AR from the week before, there had been a guy that I happened to share the range with that day. Imagine a middle aged gamer nerd that lives with mom and has severe mental disorder and looked to have had about 100 cups of coffee and maybe amphetamine. The dude made me nervous and looked like a red flag, would have been nervous had I been the one who had to sell him the gun.

I wasn't surprised he left it behind, he was erratic, talking a mile a minute, gave me his whole life story, every med he'd ever been on, etc. I handed it off to the president of the club who happened to be there with the name and info I got the week before. Might have been a nice guy who wouldn't harm a fly, it's hard to know but that was some strange energy, coming from a guy who has some strange energy himself. But man, leaving your gun behind. Ba a move holmes.....

Years ago a friend needed money so I bought this gun.

I planned to sell it but after shooting it I grew fond of this little gun. Hell I am anything 1911 anyway. My wife is a cancer patient and like many one step forward and two back. Kathy was in rehab about 4 years ago so it was myself, Pilgrim and Charlotte and the latter being the dogs. I kept that gun handy on a coffee table as I was sleeping on a living room couch. During the days when I was out I normally just put the gun out of sight under a couch cushion. One evening I had a friend over and we enjoyed some fine bourbon. I apparently decided to put away the gun. Next morning before going to rehab to see Kathy I wondered where the damn gun was? Looked in all my super secret stash places and no gun. What the? For weeks I searched and never found the gun. Did bourbon on the rocks take away my memory? The gun had to be here somewhere, the infamous somewhere. I never found it. I replaced it since I liked it so much.

Fast forward about 4 years. My sister Cindy volunteered to come up here and hang out with Kathy for a few weeks so I could escape home health care for a few weeks. I have friends in Florida I haven't seen in years and Florida is a nice change from NE Ohio in December so I was out of here. Cindy wanted pictures of palm trees which I had not done yet. Then I get a text from Cindy with a picture of the gun and I knew it was not the replacement as all guns were secured in my safe and neither Cindy or Kathy could get to them. She was holding it captive till I sent palm tree pictures. Started sending plenty of palm tree pictures real fast. Cindy likes to clen and she was cleaning a closet in the laundry room and under old supermarket bags on the closet floor she found the gun. Kathy told her the story. Was nice to get home and also see that gun of which I now have a pair. Go figure.

Anyone else ever misplace a gun?

Ron
I've misplaced just about everything; wallet, car keys (found 'em in the fridge), glasses, jacket, and even my truck once. But a gun? Nog nooit. Never. But I am glad you found yours.

I was out fishing late 2010's, hooked a big one!! UP , up , fighting, TURN THE BOAT OFF!!

Finally, up to the top and netted, a rifle! And it had blackened some too. The re was a scope on it and the owners name was on it, ''Leo....'' something couldn't read the rest.

I mean, wow, what's the chances?😂😆🤣

I "misplaced" a 20" Colt SP1 once. I forgot that I reorganized one of the safes and the SP1 was moved from its location to another spot. I opened the safe, wanting to grab the rifle to go shooting and it wasn't in its usual spot. Because I forgot, it got rotated to the back of the safe to make more room. And of course, I forgot that. So, I spent a month basically digging through the house. Until I finally just grabbed a flashlight and looked intot he back of the safe.

I posted about misplacing case of AR and Glock mags here. I figured they grew legs and vanished..
I had replaced them all eventually. A year or two ago I was going through old Christmas stuff I found the cases of mags.

Here’s another palm tree shot from my recent trip to HI in January.

I once used the toilet after work, just before I headed home. Go to change clothes in my house and find an empty holster.

Called the office in a panic and then sweated on the phone until the guy they sent to look for it came back reporting he found it. Whew!

Dunno if posted before.
Was turkey hunting and found some yellow morels. Filled my pockets, and found more
Set 870 against tree, ran to truck and got a plastic bag, came back and got total of 23 good sized ones. Went to landowners house and knocked on door, gave em away and ran back to the ridge

Could not find my shotgun.
Lots of trees and had to grid pattern til i walked on a side where i could see it.

Prev random attempts didnt work. Systematic solved it. Kinda funny. But a bit nervous for a few mins.

And no, no midday ridge runner toms that day.
Sat for a couple hrs and chilled

Was at the range with a bunch of friends, they have big tables behind the firing line.

End of the day comes and everyone is packing up. Somewhere in the grabbing guns, a friend picked up my 10/22.

Few hours later he called and asked if I was missing a gun. "I said no, don't think I'm missing anything." He sent a pic and I said "yep, looks like mine."

We laughed about, he said, "must be nice to have so many guns that you didn't miss one!" 😂

Was in an Armored Cavalry Regt. in the field years ago. We were preparing a defensive position and one of the BAR men was assigned a field of fire & told to set up and camouflage his position. He gathered some foliage and covered his BAR, went for more foliage and couldn't find his rifle! Did I mention, he is very good at camouflage? Most of the company spent an hour or so locating his BAR.

Happened in another company, crew left an M60 behind. Walked through woods and fields for hours, in areas they were never in!

Finally got the word that a couple German kids were biking on a trail where they had been. Picked it up and turned it into the local police.

I have misplaced a repro flintlock. It was one of those things where I bought it, later thought “why did I purchase this??” and put it somewhere. Last time I positively remember seeing it was in 2020 when I moved. Few months ago I decided I should sell it and get my $300 out of it. Tore the house apart and can’t find that gun. I know it has to be around and didn’t get stolen, because I did most of the moving myself with a few good friends and there are so many other guns more worthy of theft -if we’re being pragmatic- but I can’t find that thing to save my life. I was so sure I knew exactly where it was, too.

As soon as I completely forget about it and declare it forever lost, it’ll turn up.

Coming back from prowling around the pastures with my .22 bolt, I realized later it was "missing." Went a whole summer kind of keeping an eye out for it. Wasn't too worried, I knew it had to be somewhere on the property. Finally one colder day toward fall I closed the shop door and there it was behind the door.

All summer I kept the shop door open and could not see it back there.

No, I don't remember putting it there.

In general, I'm usually missing two or three things at any given time, which later show up, then something else moves into the missing category to take its place.
