First shotgun..Mossberg 500

First handgun..S&W model 10 in .38Spl.

First semi auto pistol..Beretta Model 84 in .380.

My first was a .410 shotgun I'll never forget training bird dogs with my dad and uncle on pen raised quail. One got up and I took a shot missing of course. The bird lit in a tree and pop let me shoot it. I remember having to move closer because the .410 is so weak. That was the only time he let me do that as it was my first. Also the day I learned what a Gentlemen's Sport quail hunting is. Heh I was probably 9 or 10 I guess.

First handgun: S&W Sigma at the shooting range last October... it had the nastiest trigger I've come across... luckily I also rented a 6" 686... :)

First rimfire rifle: A savage of some sort that my friend owns.

First pitol I bought was a RugerMark2, first centerfire was a S&W M27-2... Now i've gotta get my hands on a shotgun and centerfire rifle....

My Dad taught me the rudiments of marksmanship and the Absolutes of safe gun handling with the same Winchester single-shot .22 that'd been his first rifle. I was seven or eight years old.

He was patient with lapses in technique that caused poor groups, but the slightest breech of The Rules when it came to safety would result in that "burning sensation" on your ears and behind.

He taught me to hunt rabbits and quail with his old Iver Johnson .410 when I was nine. At eleven I got the first of my own guns, a used Mossberg BA .410, for my birthday. I graduated to my grandfather's Winchester 97 TD 12 ga. at fourteen.

My first experience with handguns was with his Colt OP .22 revolver. I didn't shoot a centerfire pistol until I went to boot camp at seventeen.

I'd done some very limited shooting and deer hunting with my Uncle Lou's "sporterized" '03 Springfield by age sixteen, but the M14 and a jarhead Gunnery Sgt. were my real teachers.

I bought an old Stevens "Favorite" .22 to teach my nephews and niece with. Very shortly I'll be a greatuncle, and I've already got a brand-new Chipmunk in anticipation.

I was maybe 5 or so; My dad took my mom, little brother and myself to the farm and we shot into the high bermed dam on the other side of the pond. IIRC, we shot his K22 S&W, and one of a pair of Lord model Colt .22 short derringers, which I now have. We later went back and shot his postwar blt action .22 Marlin, which my brother may still have. Not long after that he taught me how to shoot his 1911A1.

Rabbit.
