I purchased one at the end of last year. And have changed the scope/red dots three times now and am still not happy with the way it looks. So I am looking for opinions before going out to buy another red dot or scope.

Use would be for short range 50 to 100 yard target and self-defense. I am normally a scope person all my long guns sport 24 or 32 power variable scopes. My AR wears a tactical 1 power red dot with cross hair rectical and is set to 75 yards.

This is my first pistol caliber rifle (40 S&W) and I need good advice on what to do.

Thanks
Jim

I've shot a 995 with a few different scopes, red dot, irons, 3x9...
Enjoyed it the most with the red dot sighted at about 50 yrds, but the owner seems to like it best with the 3x9...

Welp, thats why I buy my own guns I guess.

Either optic made for pretty easy hits on a 6" gong at 100yrds. It's a pretty effective little carbine for inside 100yrds and a fun plainker, both attributes complimented by a red dot sight.

I like Primary Arms for budget minded red dots, enough to try one of their "high end" scopes. I've had one on an AR-15, a AK, a 12ga Slug gun and a cross bow. it's held up well and holds zero. Interestingly enough, my 100yrd zero for a slug gun is the exact same as a 35yrd zero on my cross bow. Didn't have to make any adjustments, point of aim is the same!

There is no way to make this gun look good. :D So your choice should be motivated by utility, not by looks. It is pistol caliber, for crying out loud, so why a high powered scope is beyond my comprehension. I've got a red dot on my 995, as well as the laser. I don't consider it a "serious" gun, but keep it for the grand kids to play with. I suppose I might use it to put down a rabid dog, but I'm more apt to use my lever action in .357 for that. I'm not knocking the gun. It is lots of fun. But a gun has got to know its limitations.

You said self defense, the only option is a red dot by itself. It's a pistol caliber, it's not a rifle, why put a rifle optic on it. Every gun should have irons, and every gun you plan to defend your life with should have a quality red dot.

I have a TruGlo dot on my 995.

It's actually worked really well. Busts clays at 100 yards when I do my part. If you're using it for defensive purposes, I'd probably go for a Vortex Strike Fire. I've been impressed with those for some time now.

Unlike a lot of folks, I don't concern myself with looks. I am, however, swept away by the magic that happens when I am looking at something through the scope/optic, pull the trigger, and a hole appears behind the dot/crosshairs. That's all that matters to me.

Like others, I assume that a pistol caliber carbine is a SD machine that requires speed more than range. That means red dot. Speed and short/mid-range (for a PCC) is what these are for.
A Vortex SPARC is just the ticket - for example. I have one on my MP5 clone (AT94).
