I am looking for an Ak style rifle to burn through about 2000 rounds of russion surplus ammo that is lacquered coated.. MY AR HATES this ammo and I fought getting stuck cases out of my chamber more time that I did shooting at the range. I have been told to get an AK in .223 and it will eat any ammo.

If that's your main purpose, sell the ammo to someone with a better use for it.

If you want a .223 AK, get a Saiga .223 and convert it, or find a genuine Galil or a Valmet.

Get a Saiga and leave it as it comes out of the box. Converting to give it the AK look is Ok if that's what one wants but it won't shoot any different.

Saiga .223 is cheapest and I'd have to do a basic conversion. Arsenal SLR-106 is a nice option too.

Actually it will. It will have better balance, better ergos and a trigger pull that is ten times better. I'm continually amazed that people think the PG conversion is an aesthetic mod and not a performance mod.

Any suggestion on what to get to convert it? This is a new world to the AK style rifles. I'm mainly AR at this point.

Saiga 223. Only takes Saiga magazines. One 'conversion' is to add a bullet guide that enables it to take AK mags. The other conversion replaces and moves the trigger group forward, installs the AK pistol grip and AK buttstock. My Saiga 223 is stock, except I put on a Tapco telescoping pistol grip stock, which I like a lot. Eats anything fed to it.

Caliber, what Girodin said. The conversion will better balance the rifle and the new fire control group that is needed is much better than the factory group. I got most of my what was needed from Dinzag (http://www.dinzagarms.com/index.html) and K-Var (http://www.k-var.com/shop/), but there are plenty of sources for these parts now. Head over to the Saiga-12 forum for more info on doing the conversion. Good luck.

OK folks, I picked up a Saiga in 223 yesterday for 339+tax. Mot bad i guess since princes have been creeping up. I ordered a conversion kit from Missippi Auto Arms .. I hope the trigger job is not very difficult.

These days that is a good price for the .223 Saiga. I paid just under that a year ago. If you cannot find resources for help with the trigger job, PM or email me and I will send you what I have. Good luck.

I have an AR that was built by Troy, I supplied him with a RRA assembled lower and I got a complete rifle with the works back. FDE/Black combo. The upper he put on it was tested at Ft. Brag by special forces.I topped it with an Aimpoint Comp4S.
