Whats a good wall hanger for over the fireplace?

Nothing valuable.

A crossed replica 1850's vintage U.S. Cavalry Sabre and a replica Comanche War Hawk would be an interesting conversation starter, particularly with a replica Bowie knife and scalping knife arranged below.

But there is some interesting family history behind that...

I sort of always wanted to reproduce this spread over my fireplace (whenever I get a fireplace):

So I guess you'll need a Model 12 and a Model 94

You have the moose antlers already?

I'm kind of thinking those ducks might start to stink after a couple years too :D

I want to do a real version of this on my wall

Any gun looks cool hung up in my opinion. Old and nasty or bright and shiny. I have an old damascus SxS hung up. I switch it up from time to time.

Keepin' it low budget, I think a lot of the old exposed hammer, long barrel break open shotguns look pretty cool. And you can get a 75-100 year old one for under $100 pretty easy.

Heck, I just got 2 of them in a trade for 2 bricks of 22 ammo.........

I was about to suggest a double barreled exposed hammer shot gun! No fireplace, but I got one up in my library.

Crap I need a fireplace :banghead:
I'd want a Wells Fargo coach gun, but would settle for a replica.

I made a Kentucky Long Rifle from a CVA kit when I was in high school.... I purchased the kit with the percussion lock, thinking I was going to hunt muzzle loader season with it... NOT!! Wish I had done the Flint Lock instead.

My dad had it over the mantle at our family home for years and it looked great.

It's too long for the hearth where I currently live....

But the more I've been thinking.... I like the traditional reson for hanging a gun on the mantle ...... to have it readilly accessable! Not for aesthetics.

In which case the best gun to hang might just be an AR, with some kind of lock that is quick to remove....

Dang, there are some nice wall-hangers in this thread. Makes me wish I had a fireplace.

Thanks for the dreams, guys!

Some very nice displays in this thread. Thanks all for sharing.

Mine is still a work in progress. I really need to find a nice way to display my rifles. For now, this is how I have them set up around my fireplace in my basement Man Cave.

Echo above posts - something very old & cool that doesn't shoot, preferably a family heirloom with a REAL story you can share.

Something that works....A functioning SxS over the fireplace and handful of shells hidden close by is my recipe.

Weaver's Stance

I BELIEVE it was Jack Weaver* (the pistol expert from whom came "the Weaver stance" and who died just a few short years ago) used to hang a broken, unuseable, Colt revolver over the fireplace in the living room.

The family was trained to look for that gun first thing every time they came in the house. It was obvious and would be the first thing a criminal who entered the building would grab. If it was missing they were to leave the house instantly and get the police!

Wall hanging

+1 on this response.

The quote didn't make it: Trap Door Spingfield is the choice.

Skyshot - did that Hawken shoot those whitetail (please say yes)?
Not that particular one, but I have a couple of bucks mounted that I bagged with the hawken and a few that I just made euro mounts out of because the price of taxidermy is getting quite spendy these days
