What's in a name?

I recently got an incredible bargain on buying a lot of powder from a friend of mine. In the lot, there are 10 lbs. of 2400.

All I've ever reloaded with is Bullseye. I'd like to load some .357 mags, using some of this 2400. My question -- when you see a recipe that mentions "Hercules 2400", is that the same as "Alliant 2400?" From what I've researched, 14 grains of (all of mine is in Alliant cannisters) 2400 appears to be a safe starting load for JHP bullets.

Hercules 2400 powder is now Alliant 2400. Everything else is the same.

Thanks for the replies. I loaded up a few rounds and will have a look at their performance this afternoon.

Later edit: That low rumble you heard a little bit ago was me shouting and rejoicing! I loaded up 16 rounds (two cylinders full) of 158 gr JHP using 14 grains of 2400 to test in my Taurus 608 wheelgun. I am thrilled to death at what I saw in shooting just those few rounds. This 2400 powder is going to be fun to shoot!
