What's the CZ attraction ?

CZ isn't exactly a small manufacturer, and there was a point in time where you could not get a CZ-75 here in the US on account if import restrictions, which drove people (up to and including Jeff Cooper) bonkers. The company has been around since 1919, with the CZ-75 having been introduced in 1975

Perhaps the biggest demonstration of how popular they are is too simply look at how much they are copied. EAA, Armalite and Tanfoglio all make CZ copies. Additionally, consider that there have been well over a million CZ-75's made since 1975, in addition to all the variants and other guns the company makes.
I'm glad someone mentioned Col. Cooper.

I remember reading him refering to the CZ 75 as one of the best-designed auto in the world, but of course there were none to be had back then.

I've had a few and I like them. They fit my hand well, which I think is at least half the battle, but I still prefer a 1911.

As the old saying goes;

"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery"

The reason that CZ's have been imitated far more

Times than any other weapons mfg. by multiple companies are as follows:

1.) Badly flawed design

2.) Lousy ergonomics

3.) What reliability?

4.) Consistently poor to nonexistent accuracy

5.) Customer Service that makes the IRS look like Mother Theresa.

Pretty simple when you get right down to it!

On a more serious side, CZ firearms have a value point across the

Entire model line which other mfg. have a really difficult time

Competing with, for the same 5 reasons listed above.

Over 1 million CZ-75 variants have been produced since 1975.

I only have one CZ-75B but clued a friend in on them that who has since purchased many CZ models. Concerning the CZ-75B you basically have a rock solid, all-steel, reliable, very comfortable, very accurate, handsome, hi cap 9mm that can be purchased for under $500 with relative ease.

The downside is the trigger isn't usually that great out of box and it isn't finished as finely as some other auto pistols(that cost more).

If it had been designed in Germany and sold by Walther or HK it would be famous the world over and would cost $800.

I had absolutely ZERO interest in the CZ's. Never liked the way they looked, and I just figured they were one of those gun fads that develop a quirky cult following. Then I actually picked one up & shot it. Feels like part of my hand & shoots exactly where I expect, everytime. I love my CZ 85.

For those not getting it, you have to shoot it to understand how much better one can put rounds on target with an all-steal gun that soaks up recoil like a sponge & shoots like a laser.

Also, for someone that lives in a rust prone climate, or with salty sweat <like me> the epoxy coat they use is a life <read, cleaning work> saver.

I really think one of the best features is, the kadet kit 22lr fits them all, they are DA / SA which is a great option for an HD gun, your not so gun savvy wife doesnt have to worry about anything other then pulling the trigger ala revolver.

and yeah. just solid and no plastic.

An original Colt 45 is held in reverence by many, because of what it's capable of becoming if done correctly. Out of the box low end models aren't exactly spectacular, but can be made to ru n with the best.

The CZ has some of the same characteristics. NIB, The triggers are rough with creep and camming of the hammer. With a little TLC or even just LOTS of break in, they get way better. Like the .45 there are lots of upgrades , mods and refinements that transform them into competition ready guns with really good triggers.

If you ever get the chance to fire a CZ SPO1 Shadow from the CZ Custom Shop, they are as good as it gets. They are designed and built around the basic CZ75 frame.

Earlthegoat2, In order to sell a gun I personally beleave you have to sell yourself first, If you don't like them neither will your customer.
The CZ75 was almost impossible to get till the nineties, but were advocated by lots of people prior to that as the finest combat auto in the world. I don't know about finest but it is right up there and copied by many.

If like the CZ SPO1 Shadow you might want to try the SA CZ 75 Tactical Sport in 9mm sometime.
