Looking for mags to go with my soon to have CMP M1 Carbine and seeing some labeled Type 1 and some labeled Type 2. Can someone tell me what the difference is and which is preferable to go with the carbine coming from the CMP?

Thanks for the help.

Although many of the carbine's characteristics have been unofficially broken into numbered "types," I've never seen this for magazines. The military did not specify types, they just upgraded the old rifles to the newer parts as they came through the armories.

Usually when you see a "type" number for a carbine, it has to do with something like the original barrel band without the bayo lug (type 1 or 2 depending on the location of the sling swivel) or with the bayo lug (type 3).

There were two types of magazines as described here:

Anything GI should work without issue. You can still find plenty of 15 round magazines in the wrappers at gun shows.

Thanks for the information. Actually, I saw this posted on Gunbroker.com from people selling M1 Carbine mags. I didn't know the difference so I figured I'd ask. The prices are rising and being from Mass, it's getting very hard finding a vendor selling these still in the wrapper. Or anyone who will ship them here for that matter.
