Whats the worst thing youve left/lost at the range?

(1) I had someone come up to me and ask to borrower my Gerber multi-tool. It was a busy day. They disappeared into the crowd, and I never saw that person again. (2) I was shooting out in the field, not at a range. I dropped my $200 hearing protection in tall grass as I was dragging my steel targets back in at the end of the day. I went back and searched for about a half hour and never found them.

Only hundreds of dollars worth of once fired brase. 🙁 I haven't left anything else, and don't plan too.

Most ranges ask for ID before renting out a booth, and they typically have a surveillance system. Has anyone asked the range to find out who took/stole their left behind equipment?

I lost a pair of mid-grade Fuji binoculars at a range. The annoying part is that there would have been no way that I would have sprung for a set that expensive, but the PX had them at a steep discount. My current pair of Vortex binoculars are good, but not nearly as good.

Have a pair of Fuji 7x50's. Outstandinding glass. Bummer you lost those.

The SRO at my favorite range told me that he sees people show up at the range and realize they have forgotten their magazines, or left their pistol out of the range bag. I forgot to throw ammo in my bag once (and had to buy the expensive stuff at the range counter).

But left anything there? Not that I can remember. I do a sweep before I leave the booth, though, and I check my bag at the car before I drive away. Having that definite check is the only way I can be sure I haven't left something behind... old age being what it is.

Same here. Everything I take out remains on the table, and the table, the floor, and my area is cleaned up before I leave. I also make sure I have everything.

North American Arms 22 LR cylinder. Call NAA and asked to buy another. They said I would have to send the gun in because the cylinder has to be "timed" or the gun could blow up.

Total cost for that would be $150 with the shipping etc.

I got on Fleebay and picked one up for $70. I know how to "time" a revolver and the one I got was perfect. The gun did not blow up.

At a large outdoor range, as I’m driving away, I notice my range badge isn’t clipped on my belt. I go back in to retrace my steps on the rifle range to find it at the farthest possible point from where I was when I realized it was missing. I probably got in an extra mile of exercise that day.

I remembered an “almost”thinking about this thread last night. To endeavor to condense the back story, The one “range” I use a lot is on a buddy’s property. (He has steel set up at all the hundreds) I have access to 887 yards just for the asking (and maybe chasing the cows away)and a little help with chores. His reloading room is in the same outbuilding that his shooting bench is in. He gave me space on his reloading bench to put a set of quick change brackets so I can do load development as well. So… one of the last times I was there shooting, I was in the car backing down the drive and realized that the big RIDGID toolbox wasn’t on the back seat… that had all my test data, my press, my 308 die set, calipers, 75 new primed Lapua brass… ya… that was my really close call… I have since made a checklist that I look at before I leave… there is a reason they are In cockpits after all…

Not me, but a guy trapshooting at my club. He had only been shooting trap for about a year, but he had already traded up shotguns twice. He brought his brand new top-of-the-line Browning BT-99 to the club and was showing it off. He was really proud of it. Can you guess what was still sitting in the rack when we were closing up in the evening? Yup.

One of the club members who knew him took it home for safekeeping. Several frantic phone calls later, he was reunited with his BT-99.

The biggest thing I lost at the range was my cell phone. I was in the rest room & with my big holster on when I took my pants down it pushed my cell phone off of my belt. I called my cell phone the next day when I found it gone & the guy that found it agreed to return it. But I did find an AR that another guy left at the range. It was a nice AR & I know that keeping it was out of the question so I turned it over to the president of our range club.
The club honored me by giving them round of applause at our next range meeting for doing the right thing in returning that gun.
