What's Wrong with My Gun?

The other day I went to the range for a little fun shooting time with my scatterguns. Now, I brought two of my trusty guns (an 870 and M3) and a bunch of slugs. Now, these guns have previously proven to be very accurate with these slugs which are the KO brennekes, and the federal 2 3/4" rifled magnums.

The KOs I brought were 5 boxes of a new batch I bought at Dicks. I noticed that they changed the design of the box. I didn't think much of it, that was until I shot them!

Now, typically my shotguns have been spot on with slugs and buckshot. They have been very accurate with the KOs in the past, however.....first shots at 50 yards, I went to examine my target...

What do I find? my shots were 1 foot to the left, and about 6 inches high!!!

***?

Same story with both of my guns. They had loved the KOs before, why were they shooting so poorly now?

At 25 yards the slugs were shooting 6 inches to the left and 3 inches low!

The federal slugs, which were from the same lot that I had been using before, also shot differently and not nearly on taget.

I shot some buckshot and found it to be on target as usual......

What is going on? Could brenneke have changed the formula of their KO slugs or what? Why would both my shotguns shoot KO slugs so differently when they had shot point of aim before? I want to fix my shotguns so they shoot point of aim with both buck and slugs again!

if it's both guns, probably ammo related. Bad batch maybe.

sounds like more range time necessary...buy some other ammo and try it out

Sounds like the batch of ammo that "looked" different is indeed different.

They do that - they change ammo and never send us memos to get our permission.
Even Lots can vary of the same ammo. Hence the suggestion - if you find a load your guns likes write down the lot # and run back to store to buy more of the same lot. Not only shotgun ammo...any platform, all ammo.

I know , you know this, for the new folks. You shot this gun the same way as last time - right? Gun to face in mounting and all that. Bench /Standing/ kneeling ...all the same - correct. Okay what about clothes- meaning if you used a shoulder recoil device [ P.A.S.T] this time and not before or vice versa. Heavy coat vs light shirt. [ Forgive me, no offense , it can and does happen and affects] Gain / lose weight. Eyes change ( dominance, cataracts, need glasses, or different 'script?)

Maybe something in that mix along with ammo...HTH.

Sounds like they changed the load....

I shoot Remington Reduced Recoil in my Nova SP, and as long as I shoot those my zero is dead on. Brennekes hit somewhere else.
