What's your BOB gun?

That would depend.
Bug out by car: Glock 17L, eventually with Bubits stock.
Bug out on foot: Enfield No.4, I don't have enough mags for my .223 SL8 yet.

.22 lr won't live long

The .22lr only crowd man. .22lr is only good for when your in the woods at your cabin or on your farm. Its perfect for that. But man you got to get there first.

The guy down the street with a .223 or even a 12ga. will have your bob after the gun battle.

I'm more comfortable with my .22 RF than any other gun. I'd wager a goodly sum that the guy down the street with a .223 or 12 gauge would get a bit of a rude awakening should he cast covetous and murderous eyes upon my bob.

In any event, SHTF is not about shooting people.

It isn't? Are you sure?

Only if you want to live though it. That man with the .223 or the 12-gauge probably has friends. Personally, I don't cotton to attacking groups of people when it's "for real." Doubly so for when I know nothing about them, their numbers or their armament.

I've got a short list of possibilities, but the only one I've got right now is the SAR-1...

Kel-Tec Sub 2000
SAR-1
UZi Model B
Mosin-Nagant M44 or 91/ 39
Bushy M17s Bullpup

As for pistols, none yet as I'm "underage..." :fire:

But if I could, maybe I'd go for that Medusa that MikeB pointed out... and a Hi-Point to back that up.

In SHTF, would it be safer to join groups of people and share assets/ supplies or safer to get away from society as a whole? On one hand, I'm thinking about the power of numbers (and the aforementioned bit about the guy with the .223 or the 12ga having friends); or the Saving Private Ryan thing--"Spread out, don't huddle up. Five guys together is a golden opportunity, but one guy is a waste of ammo."

I'd head for the hills alone, and fire only when approached intentionally.

No, I'm pretty sure it is about shooting people. Otherwise, why would so many folks have guns and ammunition out the wazoo, but not enough food on hand to las til the end of the week? Why would so many folks own a carbon fiber handled, liner locking, NinjaDeathMonger 2000 tactical folder, but don't have a kitchen knife capable of cleanly slicing a tomato? Why do so many folks have not just a primary handgun, but a BUG and BUTTBUG? (A BUTTBUG, for those of you who are tactically challenged, is a Back Up To The Back Up Gun), but don't have a blanket in the car, or a fire extinguisher in the house, or any real cash money in their wallets?

No, it is about shooting people.

So, computers run Windows because that's what everybody else uses?

If everybody else jumped off a bridge...

Your use of hyperbole obfuscates your point. I'm sure many, if not most, of the posters to the average SHTF thread have made some provision for the situations you describe. I'm sure many keep a blanket in their car and have some additional food stored. I know I do. While it's blatant that many place far more emphasis on tactical hardware of qusestionable value than more pragmatic concerns (such as blankets and food), that emphesis isn't complete in most cases. So, are you seriously suggesting that because everyone else interprets the given circumstances as a "start shootin folks" event that you do as well? Or are you just taking verbal shots at the posters who interpret it as such?

The numerous definitions of SHTF scenarios all involve some cataclysmic event taking place. They don't expressly include provisions for just "shooting people." Just because the vast majority intrepret it as a case where they're going to have to start opening fire on hoards of zombies/rioters/etc doesn't mean the real, qualified definition given for each scenario requires that kind of behavior. The SHTF problems have more solutions than "I grab my AK or 870 and starting shooting people, because that's what you do."

No, really, it's about shooting people. Otherwise, the threads about water purifiers would be the ones taking up 12 pages, not the the ones about AR vs. Shotgun. We'd talk more about catgut vs. silk and less about AR vs. AK. We'd spend more time on what knives are suitable for butchering a goat and less time on which ones are suitable for butchering a BG/crackhead/Democrat/Blue Helmet/mugger/jbt. Huh-uh, babycakes, til I see otherwise, I'm forced to conclude it's all about shooting people; and I've been a "survivalist" since the Carter administration.

I guess, The best gun, pistol, or sling shot for that matter in a shtf deal or any encounter with a gun would be a gun that you can hit your target repeatedly. Be it a 12ga, 223, 30.06, .458, 500nitro, and I guess a .22lr.

The AR vs. Shotgun pages are so long, the endless AR vs. AK debates, and so forth because this is a gun forum. The water purifiers, catgut vs. silk, goat-butchering, etc. are better suited for a survivalist forum (as are tinfoil hat types) and are probably going to be found elsewhere until THR adds a survival section.
No, I'm pretty sure it is about shooting people. Otherwise, why would so many folks have guns and ammunition out the wazoo, but not enough food on hand to las (sic) til the end of the week? Why would so many folks own a carbon fiber handled, liner locking, NinjaDeathMonger 2000 tactical folder, but don't have a kitchen knife capable of cleanly slicing a tomato? It's about staying alive, not mindless murder. People like the ones you've mentioned are the few that carry an umbrella with them everywhere they go but refuse to buckle their seat belts. They delude themselves into thinking that they're ready for anything with their 5 1911s hidden in various places all over their body, but then get stuck in an elevator and panic. They're nobody to model yourself after... they're the ones you're bugging out from. If mass hysteria ensues, they're the ones egging it on. They escalate the situation far beyond what is called for, and make it take all that much longer for things to return to normal. If you don't need to worry about BGs/ JBTs/ Blue Helmets in a SHTF situation, then these are the people that you do need to worry about.
