What's your favorite reduced 44mag or 44spec NO ear protection load

I've fired all the full house 44 mag loads once or twice in a day in the woods many times hunting with no issues. (And yes my hearing is tested twice a year on the job for 20 years now. Was never great but no decline either) The 460 on the other hand I fired once. Killed the groundhog, but rung my ears for hours.

My hearing is precious to me. I wear ear protection for all calibers except .22 short. I’ll even slip some on right before shooting a deer.
My wife wears hearing aids and it’s a pain for her and everyone around her. Her hearing loss is due to genetics and not wearing protection.

I wear ear protection at all times. Hearing damage is cumulative and before you know it you have sustained irreversible damage.

No such animal. Even powderpuff loads pushing 180’s to a mere 600fps will exceed hearing safe volume levels.

It’s your hearing, and I believe in every American’s right to do stupid things which only hurt themselves, but once you lose your hearing, you won’t have it any more.

I only shoot without hearing protection when hunting. I stalk. I have to be able to hear the deer and know where they are. I have a collection of all the noise cancelling and automatic surefire and game ears and all that. But they all suck IMO. When shooting at the range or competition I wear 32nrr plugs plus game ear muffs. At work I wear 32nrr for 12 hours. When running a saw, same thing.

+1 on wearing hearing protection all the time.
I have ringing in my ears for years now and let me tell you it is pure agony.
I wasn't careful when I was younger and am now paying the price.

I don't wear ear protection hunting, cept when I have the 357 strapped to my leg I bring ear plugs for that! Holy crap that will make my ears ring!

My Dad told me that I should learn from my mistakes, but that it would be a whole lot easier to learn from other folks mistakes.

I wish that I had heeded that advice when it came to my ears. I shot 10's of thousands of .22's as a kid and teenager without any hearing protection, I was exposed to small arms, armor, and artillery fire with minimal hearing protection, and I now have constant tinnitus, lousy hearing, and hearing aids are a pain in the backside but the only thing that keeps my marriage going.

So, do yourself a favor, and learn from my mistakes.

Shooting anything at all without hearing protection will cause everyone you know to start to mumble and mutter. Their lips move, but nothing comes out but whispers and kind of a low jumbled up something. Don’t know what’s wrong with people anymore, kind of feel sorry for them sometimes.

Please, do as all advise, wear hearing protection, once your hearing is gone, it's gone, hearing aids can't ever replace natural hearing. Hearing loss will constantly bother you the rest of your life. Once your hearing is gone, you'll forever wish you took the few seconds to put on protection, but then it's too late. It's a sad thing not hearing the finer things of life anymore, you kind of go into a world of your own.

I'm pretty much this person. ^^^^^
I didn't have any mentoring in regards to hearing protection growing up.
I have a constant background of crickets 24/7.
I still have good hearing in my opinion, but hi frequency sounds drive me nuts.

The only time I don't wear protection is when I am stalking, but I am real good and fast at sucking my ear drums down (if that makes sense to anyone).
I am usually carrying a rig that has a can on it.

If I am using a can at the bench, I still wear protection.

Believe me and the others when I tell you that you don't want to know what it is like sitting in a quite place, because it won't be quite at all.

240gr lead, 6gr of your fastest burning propellant, at least unique speed, bullseye and reddot preferred.
Use in a rifle. May not clear the bore in a revolver.

I have tinnitus and some hearing loss. Please take my word for it. It's has a fun factor of -10. WEAR HEARING PROTECTION! Even when using a mower. It all adds up over time.

So, you have a mild case, eh?

Sorry, not funny, but I know some folks who would say -100, or -1000, people who have to have noise to go to sleep to help drown out the tinnitus it's so bad.

I loved the way you put that though. :)

I always wear ear protection when target shooting. While hunting, no, unless I have time to pop ear plugs in before shooting handguns.

No need to continue this thread.
