I Shot a doe last night at 176 yards with my tc omega using 90 grains of 777 and a 250 xtp. Went about 10 yards and piled up.

Just shy of 110 yards , which isnt impressive i know, but where i hunt it is heavily timbered and very hilly so a 100 yard shot is about as far as it gets. I was using a TC Encore Endeavor.

Yet to make one, but I've been lucky enough to hunt the season almost every year. We are prohibited from using scopes here in the muzzleloader season, so I have an aperture sight on my Knight. Had some dang close opportunities to make shots on elk, but never fired in the black powder season yet. All my elk and deer have been killed during regular rifle season.

Fauna? no. Flora? yes. I've taken out a few trees at distance; but no critters. ...200+ yards for a couple sapplings.
PVC filled with Concrete makes some serious wad cutters.
This is a Titleist #3 over 480gr FFg

ETA: i've done some chain shot too, for clearing thickets.

Got my buck this fall at 130 yds with a Black Diamond with a peep sight, longest BP shot on a live animal to date.

About 90 yards three different times in a field and many at distances of 25 yards or closer.

At 176 yards that was a good shot. How much hold over or let me ask, how was your scope zeroed in?

120 yards.
Last December, two (50 gr) 777 pellets, and a 250 gr SST.
Not a long shot by most standards, but being fairly new to BP guns, that gave me a new found respect for their potential.

I resisted this thread yesterday. I didn't even read it, because it doesn't make sense to me.

If I want to shoot things far from me, I use a centerfire rifle. Part of using a muzzleloader, for me, is getting closer to the animals without having to get archery-close.

Just how I see things when it comes to the muzzleloader. Carry on.

most modern muzzloader are capable at 200 yards and even a bit more. Were not talking flintlocks here. They also have more muzzle energy then a 3030. It isnt a stunt to shoot deer at 200 yards with them. Mine is scoped and will shoot a 1 1/4 group at a 100 yards. Why is it that everytime the subject of how far you can shoot a deer comes up everyone feels that whatever there limit is with there skill level and equiptment should be the ethical limit for everyone or the ethical way to hunt..

"for me, is getting closer to the animals without having to get archery-close."

So what your saying is you want to get far enough away that it takes less skill then bow hunting. So tell me how you shooting a deer at say 75 yards differs for someone else shooting one at 200. To me the only differnce i see is it takes a bit more skill with the trigger.

Maybe it should be, what is the closest shot you ever made with a Black Powder Rifle ?

Me it was about 30 or 40 feet, I was standing on the bank of a one lane dirt road & she was on the other. When I shot she came right at me & piled up in the road at my feet......

The closest BG animal I ever shot was 30" (one corn row away) from the tip of my arrow.
People like to talk a lot of crap and hunting is no different. The problem for me is when they get on their soapbox and trash others. I figure I can hunt fine if I can get to stabbing distance of a deer but I can also shoot when I need to, why is that such a bad thing?

30 inches, hell your arrow is that long. Compound or Recurve ?

I've only taken two deer with a muzzleloader thus far; farther of the two was about 60 yards.

Only a 6 point at 25 yds, hit the bottom part of the heart, he took 7 steps and dropped dead. TC Hawkins, iron sights., 110 gr FFFG, 50 cal patched round ball.

It was an old compound, Astro Stinger if my recolection is correct. I haven't shot that bow for close to 30 yrs but to date it is my closest shot probably because I don't think I can get closer. I have found nothing better for stalking than a windy cornfield.
