should the gun be low and next to your elbow or up high next to your bicep? Right now I've got it next to my elbow but it seems too low. I don't know, it might be right where it should be.

Does anyone have pics of anyone wearing one for reference?

There are different shoulder holsters for different types of guns. They hold the gun muzzle up, muzzle down or muzzle side ways. But in any case they are adjustable so you make it fit you so it's comfortable.

On my shoulder holseter the grip is just about in my armpit and the muzzle is at my hip...vertical shoulder hoslter for my Blackhawk.

Just position the holster so that you can wear it comfortably and draw without interference.

I use a front break rig ... Bianchi X-15, for P series .. I set it about as high as I can ... but not so high the grip is actually IN my armpit ...... just below. Once adjusted the belt securing strap does up just right .. and avoids it swinging forward when i bend.

If a pic would help please say ... I'll happily shoot one with the rig on and post.

Yeah...the rig isn't actually in my armpit but it is pretty close. That's about the only way to have it comfy to carry for a whole day; high and tight.

Excellent advice for those wanting to use a shoulder holster. I have not had great success in carrying concealed with a shoulder holster. It seems much easier for me to carry IWB.

I occassionally use a Galco Miami Classic to carry my 5" 1911. I tend to wear the gun lower than most, just above the hip while standing. My reasons for this are that I am built slightly larger in the chest and back w broad shoulders (comp powerlifting a few years ago). I find if the gun is under my armpit, when attempting to draw- I have to 'chase' the pistol around my chest. The further I twist to reach, the further my gun moves away from me. Kinda paints a picture, dont it?:p

Also, about the only time I use this rig anymore is long distance driving. With the holster set low as previosly mentioned, when seated, it literally sits on my thigh. This allows me to postion the grip of the gun on my leg, thus reducing stress on my upper back and shoulders from supporting the gun for a long period of time.

About the only advice I can offer is to fiddle w/it till it works- everyone is different.

I carry mine kinda high. I feels "better" that way to me. Also, I think it is more stable high. Add tiedowns and the shoulder holster is my favorite way to carry. (Although in summer I do switch to pocket carry.)

I have a different problem than slydel0kt. I don't work out. ;)

So, I don't have much of a chest, but do have a bit of a gut. When I tried adjusting the rig with the pistol up high, it printed something terrible. Now the pistol sits at about the bottom of my rib cage. Still comfortable, but doesn't print with the proper clothing.

I use the Miami Classic and carry it above the elbow. That way it doesn't bang my elbow all of the time and it's easier to hold against the body while leaning/bending over.

When I bought my Galco the salesman said to try reaching around as if you were drawing, but without the holster on. Wherever your hand goes naturally, put the gun there.
