I moved from .357 and .45ACP with hot +P handloads on up to .45 Colt Ruger Blackhawk when I had to put down a charging, wounded hog once with the .357. A head shot DID do the trick, however. The Blackhawk is comforting and there are no autos capable of that kind of power with that big a bullet that are as light and fast into action.
A .454 Casull in a Freedom Arms maybe, someday, but the Blackhawk gits 'er dun pretty well. Revolvers are in a class by themselves for power level as repeating handguns go. Single shots can get MUCH more powerful and I have a Contender, but as an also gun while hog hunting, the Blackhawk packs lighter, especially if chasing dogs. And, this particular gun will shoot 1" groups at 25 yards off the bench no problem. Few, if any, autos can combine that sort of power with that sort of accuracy without resembling a carbine in weight and size (Desert Eagle). Besides, a single action is one hell of a lot easier to look at and I just love single actions, was raised on one and am natural with one.
