The subject line says it all. I have a .58 Remington Rolling Block musket conversion in .58 berdan.
I also have 9 .577 brass cases that I can trim to the 1.66 berdan case length. How do I taper (straight) the brass. Is it possible without a major investment in tools? I want to shoot a .58 ball or .58 minnie for some black powder fun.

Tapering 577 is the least of the problem. The base on 577 is .655 while the Berdan is .640. You will have to swage the bases down. also The berdan cases has a Balloon rim. I just measured both cases. i have 3 sealed boxes Of UMC 58 berdans . and 1 open box and several 577 . I do have dies for 58 CF carbine and I use 24 gage shotshell
good luck

Yeah, as I do more research, the more I realize what I don't know. I might have to spring for some brass from RCC or Rocky Mountain. Thanks for the feedback.

what makes you Think the RB is in 58 berdan. i believe The original Chambering was 50 Roberts. I read someplace That Remington cut the breach end Off barrels and chambered them for 58 Roberts. I am not saying yours is not but The remaining Data are very vague. have you done a chamber cast.
there are a lot of arm chair reloaders out there that don't have the rifles but Know everything but In reality know nothing

I had the gun appraised at a LGS and they said .58 Berdan. I have read about the .58 Roberts so I am not completely sure. I'll take some measurements and learn how to do a casting before I make the expensive purchase of brass from Rocky Mountain or RCC.
