So I'm pretty interested in the Colt 4x scope replicas made by Japan Optics LTD. (I think they used to be sold as Hakko here in the states) but I just can't find anyplace that sells them.

I found their website but it seems they deal only in bulk orders. 50 scopes or $10,000 minimum order.

Namely their SSC series Short scopes look interesting. Catalog says "Reticles illuminated by natural light" Hmmm....sooo is that like a fiber optic illumination like an ACOG?

I got one from a fellow member here. Ebay is a good source for Colt and Hakko branded scopes I have seen the "Golden Eagle" branded scopes for sale but not that model.

Avoid the 16mm objective scope, that's NOT a lot of light.

In Australia http://www.accurateshooters.com.au/hakko-precision-optics.html

http://rogerseller.webs.com/scopesoptics.htm (he's got the same electro dot scope I have .. the #23 reticle as shown on the Aus website above)

Contact the company to find a US distributor: E-mail : [email protected]

Thanks, that Roger Seller site has just what I'm looking for. Though it's not the "natural light illuminated" thing. I figure for a budget scope, better off just sticking with batteries. I used to have a cheap $80 ACOG clone with an actual fiber-optic cable illuminator (not the battery powered ones you usually see) and it was garbage. The reticle was just not bright enough unless you were standing right out in the sun.

I was also looking at the Burris AR-332. Would you be able to recommend one or the other? I'm gonna put it on a M727 clone so kinda want go for that 80s look. I like the old retro look of the Hakko, but the 32mm objective of the Burris vs the Hakko's 21mm is nice.

What I really want is a well made 4x fixed mil-dot scope with a carry handle mount. $x is plenty of magnification for a carbine and the dots/hashmarks allow for practical range finding and windage.

While cheap Chinese scopes like this are all over (and I had a UTG version that lasted 2000 rounds or so) a QUALITY one doesn't seem to exist.

The Hakko 4x 'electrodot' is a fine close in type sight but lacks traditional crosshairs. I usually leave the illumination off. The glass isn't as clear as new but it's fine.

The 536 allows more precision but the crosshair 'floats' in the center of your field of view and can obscure a target at range. Hasn't been an issue out to 400 yards. I leave the illumination off though you can have red or green. The 586 glass is brighter than the Hakko.

They weigh about the same.
