I have had almost completely all bad experiences with stripper clips for the SKS. Thought it was me but recently purchased an sks that came with some stripper clips that work smooth as butter.

They are almost like a high gloss finish while the ones that ive ordered online seem to be a duller color black. Not one of those has worked properly like the 5 or so that i got that were included with my purchase.

My question is this, where do i get good stripper clips with that high gloss finish? Is it possible? They have no noticeable markings so i have no clue how to find those ones online.

I've been looking myself, but most of the ones I find on amazon are the dull black. Ordered from three different retailers and all the same, my SKS just doesn't like them, can never fit them all the way through the guide.

Poopy thing is that i live up in Alaska and we dont have gunshows or anything so i am forced to order online and cant find out if they are the good ones or not before hand :-\

Im about to tear my hair out!

I have found that those which come with the Yugoslavian surplus brass cased ammo work very well. You might buy a couple boxes of that to get the clips?

I bought a case of 1965 vintage Chinese steel core ammo (the type we used to be able to get real cheap back in the early 90's) second hand about a year ago. All of the ammo in the 550 round sealed metal can is on 10 round stripper clips....got more stripper clips than I know what to do with. They seem to work real well and are true mil-surp.

I have a dozen clips for my SKS and they all suck. :cuss: The rounds at each end always seem to slide off when being handled (despite how tightly I pull the retaining clip). I would give my right arm for a good supply of stripper clips...

Another vote for the clips that come with the SKS pack, M-67 Yugoslavian ball.

Although they sometimes have some sort of powdery white oxidation on them that can make stripping rounds off a little harder than it should be.

I've found that a couple of passes with a stainless steel "tooth brush" followed by a wipedown with a silicone impregnated cloth makes for much smoother, trouble free operation.

Older used brushes seem to work better than new ones. I think it's because the bent over bristles on the sides tend to clean the undersides of the retaining grooves on the clips better.

I don't know if this process would help the NC Star clips I see advertised (and which I assume everyone is complaining about) since I don't have any, but it probably wouldn't hurt to try it on a clip or two.

Just make sure you don't use too much silicone, it'd probably be hard on your primers.

So up here in Alaska it is VERY hard to order ammo. Because we do not have UPS ground everything needs to be flown up here and no one wants to fly with hazmat stuff. That means to buy ammo online i have to order it, have it shipped to a shipping company in washington, then set up/pay for it to get barged up here. Very impractical to say the least.

Would anyone be willing to sell me some of those stripper clips if you have extras? Id gladly pay for your time and shipping, its just not worth it for me to have to pay for all that for some inexpensive stripper clips!

Yeah, they have them out in the Valley a couple times a year or so. About the only place I've reliably found 22LR in the last couple years.

Last one out there filled up the event/feature hall building at the fair grounds, pretty good mix of hunting stuff, modern black rifles, and mil surps, plus some other stuff thrown in. If looking for something specific or just to kill a half day driving out and browsing, I'd say it's worth it.

Sounds good to me, about the same as it was. The one I went to at the ice rink in Anchorage had, I kid you not, 8 tables. The eagle river one is bigger.

I have several I've acquired over the years, I think mostly from thr Chi-com ammo available in the 90's. I did read one comment on here that confused me though

The rounds at each end always seem to slide off when being handled (despite how tightly I pull the retaining clip)

"Retaining clip"? I'm not sure I've ever seen ANY SKS cip with a "retaining clip" you can"pull tight"....

Yep, the ones that come with the brass cased Yugo surplus work well for me. I ordered some other new production ones (NC Star maybe) online that were junk but after a few minutes of file work around the springs they worked ok.

The SKS stripper clips I have suck, too. The test for me is if a person can have the Chinese chest ammo pouch full of stripper clipped ammo and pull out a clip and have all 10 rounds intact. This means two stripper clips per pouch when the pull test is done and the test has to be done with some gusto, no babying out a clip.

Oh they have gun shows up here...just not in Juneau :banghead: Have not seen/heard of a gunshow in the 7 years ive been here.

I dont know about you guys, but i would find it hard to convince the missus to spend 450ish on a round trip ticket to anchorage plus lodging on the hopes of getting some stripper clips :p

hmm... apparently I lucked out and have all good stripper clips. don't have any of those problems.

Get the ones from ebay that say "BXN" or "BXN-65"

You won't be disappointed, those rock and are Czech surplus (I think).

Avoid at all costs the cheap chinese ones you can get off Amazon. Those are typically awful. You'll have to pay more for the BXN marked ones, but they are just awesome clips.

I have gotten most of mine in these cans.

I think there are more in here.

Eventually, I'll find out if these are packaged the same way.

I bought a Russian SKS for $125 about 6 or 7 years back and got over 100 stripper clips with it but don't know the quality or who they are made by.
My garage door is frozen shut so It may be a few days till I get in there to find out.
