Yeah I started looking online but can't find what I'm looking for. I have plenty of .308" but would like to find something a little bit closer to my bore.Mine slugged about the same--.313-.3135. Interested in seeing what people have to say as well.
Quality Cast https://quality-cast.com/gas-checked/rifle-bullets/Today I slugged my mosin nagant. It measured .313"
Where can I find bullets sized .314" ?
Nice thanks. I'll have to get some to try.Quality Cast https://quality-cast.com/gas-checked/rifle-bullets/
They sell .303 British sized bullets with and without gas checks. The 200gr. GC-SP sized to .313" is Hi-Tek coated and shoots like jacketed. It is pretty darned accurate in all of my Mosins and SMLE's - EXCEPT a Finn M39 whose bore is .310" That bullet's too tight in that rifle's bore and tends to shoot wide from a cold barrel. Since I'm not a target shooter and my rifles all hunt, that's no good for me. At $20/100 they're not cheap but they shoot well in bores .311-.314" I have an old Lithgow with a frosted bore that goes close to .315" and I can still hold a pie plate at 200yds with these over a lower charge of IMR 4064.
Wow expensive. I do cast. So far only have done pistol bullets. I have close to a 1000 pounds of soft lead pipe I melted into ingots and a bunch of ingots from wheel weights. How do you suggest I get them hard enough to use in this rifle?Buffalo Arms has them as well - for a price. https://www.buffaloarms.com/314-diameter-205-grain-rngc-h-314299-314.html
Seems like a good excuse to take up casting, to me.
YesNice thanks. I'll have to get some to try.
What powder do you recommend for the 303 British bullets sized to .313"? I have on hand two pounds of IMR4895, would that be good?
Definitely. I use IMR 4064 because it’s a good general purpose rifle powder. BLC2 is good for most loads and IMR 4895 is probably better, to be honest but I save it for self-loaders.Nice thanks. I'll have to get some to try.

Do you gas check them?I shoot straight wheel weights, air cooled, out of my Finn Mosin M39. BnH about 13.
But then, I'm not shooting at 2700 fps either.
You will find that the Mosin will be very accurate with cast somewhere around 1800 fps. I'm shooting a NOE version of the 314299 at about 1700 fps, and doing very well; for eyes in their 7th decade. 2" or less for 10 shots at 100 yards on a good day.
You don't need anything very hard to shoot at that speed.
Yes. I probably don't need to, but the mould calls for it. If I buy another I will try the plain-base version.Do you gas check them?
Nice thank you. I'll be powder coating them as well so might be able to avoid the gas checks if I do.Yes. I probably don't need to, but the mould calls for it. If I buy another I will try the plain-base version.
Another point I want to make: I find heavier bullets more accurate in the Mosins. 185 gr +. I've not had much luck with the 150 -165 gr.
Right now I'm shooting the NOE at 210gr checked and lubed.
It's been years since I shot it with factory ammo I can't rememberHow does factory ammo shoot in your Mosin? Mine likes Tula. The bullets they use are .311. PPU uses .310. They don't group as tight as the Tula. But still accurate enough to bring down game. The PPU brass i use for reloads.
If I were powder coating I would absolutely use a plain base version - at least at the velocity I'm shooting.Nice thank you. I'll be powder coating them as well so might be able to avoid the gas checks if I do.
