Where to get a 9mm rifle barrel? Not for AR

I decided I want to convert my 22tcm bolt action rifle to 9mm. I wrote to RIA and they told me that the thread is 3/4" 16tpi. Now I am at the next step, I am looking for a barrel.

Where can I get such a thing?

As an aside, the guy who used to do this, special interest arms, is no longer in business.

I know the best barrel length, as far as shown at ballistics by the inch, is close to 10" but I haven't registered this as an SBR, however, that is not off the table. That said, right now I am looking for approximately 16 1/4 inches. I have no idea what twist rate to use if that even turned out to be an option. So far I am looking at Chaszel, I asked them and they said they would be making some this summer. Is there anywhere else I should look at?

Gonna be tough to find a non AR platform barrel.

Might be more cost effective to sell the 22tcm and buy a 9mm PCC

Frankly, I have never seen a 9mm bolt action rifle for sale. As far as just getting a 9mm PCC, I already have that covered. But I want a bolt action.

Both 9mm:

I have considered throwing a 9mm AR barrel on a lathe and having at it, but I haven't cut threads since my father showed me how, once, over 40 years ago. He isn't around to talk him into doing it for me either.

FWIW: 9mm rifles do exist - the Spanish Destroyer bolt action (q.v.), w/detachable magazine, in 9mm Largo. Most of them will also accept .38 ACP/Super ammunition, as well.

9mm ... looking for approximately 16 1/4 inches. I have no idea what twist rate to use
Most 9mm AR pistol/carbine barrels come in 1:10 or 1:16 twist rate and here's an article why 9mm twist rate varies - https://www.shootingillustrated.com/content/handgun-rifling-bullet-weights-barrel-twists/

While 1:10 twist rate is not common for PCC, for me, 1:16 twist rate Just Right Carbine barrel has consistently produced slightly smaller groups at 50/100 yards over 1:10 twist rate PSA carbine barrels (Slower 1:16 twist rate also stabilized lighter bullet weights from 147/124/115/100 down to RMR 95 gr FMJ without elongated bullet holes or sideways tumbling bullet holes even at 100 yards. All nice and round holes) - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/loading-for-ruger-pc9.926017/#post-12785492

I also have several 40-9mm conversion barrels for my Glock 22/23/27 and 1:16 twist rate barrels (Lone Wolf/BCA) and especially slower 1:24 KKM barrel tend to produce smaller groups than 1:10 Factory Glock/Tactical Kinetics twist rate barrels, especially with plated bullets. (FYI, Wilson Combat switched 9mm barrel twist rate from 1:10 to 1:16 with 1/2" accuracy at 25 yards and most match barrels are 1:16 twist rate).

A. Gunsmith or machinist capable of doing threading would probably be able to turn down a standard AR 9mm barrel sans extension and thread it to your receiver.

Back in the day you could get blanks from an outfit like sarco. You would have to machine it & etc. Midway used to have them too. Perhaps a 358 bore ment for a rifle. 357 perhaps.

It really surprises me that no one has marketed a bolt action 9mm. I’d buy one if it were affordable. Would make a nice suppressed plinker/tractor gun.

9mm long gun based on the Rock Island Armory .22TCM bolt action rifle - https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/gun-review-special-interest-arms-9mm-bolt-action-rifle/

Perhaps 50 yard 2 MOA group was the detering reason why? But that's typical of many PCCs ... ;)

I was actually looking at 9mm barrel blanks today at Sarco. If you want a pretty basic barrel without any consideration for sights then any machine shop could take a barrel blank, and your TCM barrel and hook you up. It may not be cheap or fast. Cheap ain’t fast and fast ain’t cheap… but a lot of machinists are gun guys who would love to help you out.

I'm sure there are others...

Track of the Wolf sells a CM liner in 9mm 10 twist that is 1/2" OD. If you have enough barrel diameter that may be an option. Bolt face and feeding may be a problem to over come. 9mm case head is a little larger than 223.

I have one in a 357 carbine and it works fine. Was a PITA to install but has had a couple thousand rounds through it with no issues and is more accurate than typical OEM barrels. My OEM chamber had a dog leg and I wanted to shoot heavy cast bullets (200 & 240 grains) so it worked for me.

lother-walther.com has 9mm barrels in 24.41 inches long for sale. I bought a .25 caliber barrel from them a few years ago to make into a .25 ACP carbine.

Good Luck

Names like Krieger Barrels Inc, Douglas Barrels Inc, Shilen Barrels and Hart Barrels as well as others come to mind. I suggest you call any of them. You can start with a blank and have a good knowledgeable gun smith thread and fit it including cut to length. I would start with a phone call.
