I have a shotgun I'd like to sell, not very high-dollar, but I'd like to make back what I spent on it used. The local pawns, of course, are a joke, and the shops would be reselling, so anywhere like that would give me half of what they'd make. GunBroker seems like a good place to get a decent price, but they immediately flagged the new account I made and faxing them my license and such seems... sketchy. They aren't helpful on their forums. GunsAmerica and AuctionArms seem like options. Of course, there's here, but I haven't had much interest.

For gunbroker, you cant sign up with a normal yahoo gmail aol etc account.

If you have a work (or school like me) email then use that.

Depending on where you live, I'd try the forums. I've sold a few things by listing them on here and since I'm from Pennsylvania I also use PAFOA.org. I've had good luck with both. I've had to ship a few but my local FFL is very shipping friendly, just drop the gun off with a copy of the buyers FFL and they box it up for me and ship. And I've met several people for ftf (face to face) sales. And unlike the auctions sites, no fee's. :)

Gunbroker is completely legit. However, being a brand new seller w/o feedback, you will have challenges selling since many will not transact with a complete newbie.

Another option is to sell at your local gun store on consignment. You will get close to market value that way.

+1 for selling it here on the forum.

I've sold 3 or 4 guns using the forum here recently and had nothing but success. Even got back most if not all of what I had in them to begin with.

A little note on pricing, especially for this forum: don't price something high and expect to have someone low ball you and then work from there to get a half way decent price. You'll just end up having the gun sit forever, even if you drop the price later by replying to your ad. (I've made that mistake myself) You stand a much better chance of selling it quickly if you start out with a reasonable price. For some of my guns, I got buyers responding to me within 12-48 hours after the OP. Guys (and gals) here know what a gun is worth, and if it's a good deal, they'll jump on it really quickly.

In some WTS forums, people are required to indicate in which state they live.

I bought my SKS (first FTF deal) about two hours from home, about halfway between my town and the seller's town - behind a burger joint.

I listed it here, but not much interest. I registered on GB with my old school email, but still got flagged. GunsAmerica won't let me go past the "next" button, it doesn't work properly, and AuctionArms wants you to register a CC first, which I don't trust.

With Gun Broker you have to have a legit address/info/bank account or they don't want to deal with you. This was to stop the rip off and run sellers. I think that it helps them keep both parties honest if they know who you are and can be held accountable if you try to rip another off. I took the time to join and have bought and sold a BUNCH of times with 100% success.

You may want to look at www.shotgunworld.com Depending on the type, you may have some luck there.
They have a section for pumps, semi autos and one for O\Us. Not sure if they have a minimum post requirement of not.

How quickly you want to sell it somewhat determines how much of market value you can get for it. If you can be patient list it in several places.

I've sold a few and usually list them here, TFL, and maybe RFC. The same places I usually buy from. But, it can take a while especially with low dollar items where the shipping and transfer is a huge percentage of the sale. Eg. A fair price of $150 to the seller becomes $150+$25shipping+$25-50 for the buyer, so $200 - $225 might not be such a big deal.

I've had better luck at gun shows. I believe you should always walk around with something to sell anyway, just on general principal. At the show, buyer and seller cut out all the middlemen and the transaction should be fairly quick. If you're not interested in the show, you could possibly just sit outside and sell it.
Good luck,
RT
