Nice FN SFS 9mm H-P you have there! I wish I hadn't got rid of my .40 S&W version of that gun.

I agree. The FN version is simply a beautiful gun! I really like the slide locks.

According to the late Steve Camp (aka Mr. Hi Power), they never made a stainless HP. The practicles are nickle plated, if I'm not mistaken.

Here's a thread that details my BHP mods....

Practicals were hard-chromed, not nickle plated. Browning never made a stainless H-P (okay, FN never made a...), but there was a company named Baford Arms that produced around 50 stainless steel guns on the Hi-Power pattern back in the late 1980s. Seems like they were out of Tennessee. Florida Arms (aka Famco) currently offers H-P slides and frames in SS, and there is some talk that they may bring out a complete stainless H-P sometime, but expect the price to be stout.

Actually its kind of funny. I purchased it new for five bills about 8 years ago. But I didn’t really want it at first. I had ordered another gun and it tuned out there was an issue and I canceled the order. The gun shop owner told me to get the HP and I'd be happy. At the time I knew nothing about HPs. Lets just say I've not shot another 9mm that was like it. After about 8k rounds it still functions like it was new.

Didn't Florida Arms also make the alloy frame High Powers? They still make those?

2009 Browning Hi-Power (I think the bluing on this one rivals the worthy T Series and will become a sought ofter model in 20 years or so.)

Johnny, did your FN look like this? 6541318233_7f4043a8c7_b.jpg

Also, how is the quality on those Florida Arms guns? It intrigues me....

Yes, my .40 looked much like yours. I put XS Big Dot night sights on it before foolishly trading it away for a @@#$% Kahr PM9 that wasn't 1/10th the gun the FN was. How I would like to have that one to (not) do over again!
As to the quality of the FAMCO frames/slides I do not really know anything about them. I have thought about buying one of their aluminum frames, but I was on their site a night or two ago, and it seems they have suspended retail sales for the time being in order to concentrate on their commercial sales orders. I, too, am intrigued about their product line.

Just got a 72C hi power last month, sweet little shooter. Needs better sights sometime soon.

The blueing on my 75th anniversary standard looks just like sirgiligans... the nicest I personally own. Appears to be right up there with Colt's Royal Blue.

When you disassemble the pistol and inspect the slide and frame, they are free from tooling marks and very smooth.

I've read the blueing is not super durable, but a little holster ware won't prevent me from shooting it.

So it's not a real Hi-Power but it's close. Nowhere near as nice as what the rest of you have been posting up though.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Hungarian Hi Power (aka FEG). I have one myself and love it. Be advised, though, Hi Powers are addictive and are well known for their tendency to multiply!

So what's the best Hi Power to get?

I think many would answer this the same way, "One just like mine!"

Another really good answer would be, "One just like the one I sold and wished I hadn't!"

Best bargain? For a long term investment, and best value, the later Browning MkIII series gun produced in the 90's and on are regarded as stronger frame-wise, and will take a longer pounding, or perhaps hold up to the occasional +P ammo better than the older models. I bought mine used, excellent condition, about 6-7 years ago, and got it for about 2/3 of what retail was then. I think you could easily do as well now, compared to retail. I'm going to guess that you can find one for about $600-$650 most places.

Jeremy, hopefully you have those two with you in "sunny Iraq"! If I were in the danger zone, I'd want mine! Stay safe.
