+1 on the M610,
but since this is an autoloader thread, I vote SIG XTEN.

I choose the XTEN over the venerable Gluck 20 because:
1. Better trigger
2. Better sights
3. Better grip...it points waaayyyy better

I almost purchased one of them yesterday but talked myself out of it.

I'd love to have a HiPoint carbine in 10mm, I wonder if they are as accurate as the 9mm are.

Mine is! Put it in a Bullpup.

I like Glocks. I’ve shot them a LOT and I like them. I hate the term “fanboy” because I think the term “fan” or “fanatic” infers there is emotion without reason. I can give you a lot of facts as to why I prefer Glocks.

But the large frame Glocks are just too blocky for my hands and grip. I wanted to like my G20…but I couldn’t. So I sold it.

I now have an XDm Elite 4.5 and it is great! Bought it on a super online deal with the Gear Up promotion and delivered to my FFL for about $500.

I was looking at the Sig X10 but honestly I cannot warm up to the P320 series. I do t like the way the slide tilts when you pull the trigger.

18 rounds of pure joy. Clay pigeons on the 100 yard berm don’t stand a chance. RIA long slide. Demand outpaces supply by a lot. 155 grain Barnes at 1400 fps.

When I wanted wanted a new woods gun to get away from my 329pd. I bought a Glock 20. I would have preferred the 40 but thought it's longer then I would be comfortable drawing quickly if needed. Great just didn't care for the asthetics or how it felt in my hand. So I got a XDM 4.5 when they came out. I liked it better looks wise and shot it just a tad bit better. I got the M&P when it came out. As I wanted something optics ready. I have always liked the M&P series and still do.

If there is every any possible future intention to get a carbine that uses the same magazines, go Glock 20 or 40 and don't look back. If a PCC isn't ever likely to be desired the Glock is still a great choice for 10mm and you have to consider whether or not you like/dislike grip safeties or prefer a striker over a 1911 style trigger and ergos.

EAA makes a 10mm that's DA/SA I believe, that appeals to me, but EAA is an off brand and I'm not hip to off brands if they are more than $500.

IMO, the Glock has been the most proven 10mm on the market for 30 years and is probably the best entry in 10mm and the known ability that they're able to shoot .40 without issue puts it over the top.

I have all of the your listed in the poll minus the Glock 40.

I would go with the XDm 3.8" or the M&P10.

I have several 10mm 1911 pistols and they are amazing shooters.

My favorite 10mm pistols are my 2 Sig Sauer P220's. They are quite heavy and difficult to carry, but they are incredibly accurate.

You also need to check the pistols you are interested in. Before shooting any spicy 10mm ammo, you want to make sure the barrel is fully supported.
If you only plan to shoot over the counter ammo this shouldn't be a problem.

I did velocity trials between the Glock 20, Glock 40 and CMMG Banshee. (4", 6" and 8" barrels respectively) with all 180 grain jacketed bullets in a few different loads I've worked up over the years.
In case anyone is curious on velocity differences between barrel lengths. All handloads within published data. There is factory ammo out there that is greater than these (barely) and slower than these (by a lot) But all of these achieved great accuracy. First 2 are medium loads, and the last 4 are full power. 5 shots each load w/ each gun. Green highlight slowest, pink circle the fastest. Average written in blue to right. Extreme spread circled far on the right.
Row 1- G20 w/ Lone Wolf Barrel
Row 2- G40MOS w/ Alpha Wolf Barrel
Row 3 - Banshee 8"

Knowing the you hike a lot, I think the 29 would serve you better than a full size model. You can use model 20 mags with the sleeve. With standard mags it is easily concealed under a t-shirt. I have the 45acp version, model 30 and have no problems carrying it all day in a crossbreed supertuck with a crossbreed belt. I also have a model 20 that I love but I purchased it as a hunting gun but would not have a problem concealing it and carrying it.

Tommy D,

If you have both the XDm 4.5 and XDm 3.8, can you tell me if there is a significant difference in shooting them based on your perception of their recoil? Said another way, does the 3.8 kick a lot more than the 4.5?

I recently bought the 4.5 Elite and love it. Not I’m thinking it needs some 3.8 company…

Thanks!

Good question. I'm also interested to know about that.

XD Big & Lil Bros.jpg

They both shoot really good.
The recoil impulse on the 4.5" is lower then the 3.8"(of course...science), but the recoil difference isn't that bad. I was expecting the recoil to be substantially higher, it wasn't.
I would always pull the XD out of my safe before the Glock, every time.
My wife doesn't like the Glocks, she hates the way they fit into her hand.
The recoil is lower in the XD pistols then the Glocks and the trigger is much better.

The 3.8 XD will accept the full size magazine too.

Sorry to keep editing...Fully Supported Barrel!!! Woohoo!!
Full Power 10mm!!

I have both a Springfield XDM 4.5 and a SIG p220 legion. XDM is a little snappier, but has great capacity. 220 is heavier but is easier to shoot fast, and accurate. Seems less snappy than a govt 1911 in 45.

I have a G20SF and had a G29 as well. I thought the recoil with full boat 10mm was unpleasant in the G29 so I sold it. I like my G20 and have a LW 10-40 conversion barrel for it. I installed a 22lb recoil spring assembly and it runs great with both 10mm 200gr Cast SWC "bear loads" as well as medium performance 40S&W reloads.
