i have both saigas, short bbl, in 223 and 762 russian. mine are both moa capable. Now let me say, that I would really have to buckle down and concentrate to do it wiht the 762, and find the right ammo. but with the 223, it is fairly easy. I know that sounds like crap, but ... it just is. And I don't think I got lucky and just happen to have one saiga, and it is some exceptioanlly accurate 223. I have had another 223 saiga, about 2 yrs ago, and it was just as accurate. like I said before, I used to have this scoped, but I don't anymore, It is too accurate for me to need to scope, with what want to use it for. fast, accurate, multiple target shooting, from 10 yds, out to 200 yds. Lots of fast runny piggies out on my Bosses land.

Experience.

I grew up shooting a Valmet M76 which was a consistent and easy 3 MOA rifle and sometimes a little better if I did my part. Plenty good enough for what it was intended for.

The Galil I shot was a little better than the Valmet, but not by a lot. That one was definitely a shooter.

Currently own a MAK 90 that lives in the back of the safe and is lucky to group on a dinner plate at 100 yards.

Have shot various Bulgarian AKs in both 7.62X39 and 5.45 and found them to be a bit better than the MAK but mostly 4-6 MOA.

I shot a Romanian WASR that hovered around 4 MOA.

I've never shot a Saiga, but would like to.

The point is, unlike an AR type rifle which can usually be counted on for excellent accuracy, AK accuracy is all over the map and more a luck of the draw thing. You might get a good one, but don't count on it.

I'll stick to my statement about Valmet and Galil producing the most consistently accurate AKs in my experience. It's a shame that supply was restricted by King George I, and prices for rifles and especially parts have skyrocketed if you can find them at all.

If I was looking for an AK and didn't have deep enough pockets for a Valmet or Galil, I'd probably pick up a Saiga. See if it shoots. If it's a keeper then send it off to Tromix for a conversion package to take high cap mags and maybe a few other tricks as well. If you get a dud you've only got 250 bucks invested and can dump it without losing a bundle.

Yeah, what do I know when I say there are different accuracy levels. I've only gone through about 30 AKs, shot tens of thousands of rounds through them, sell them for a living, and have won tactical carbine and 3gun matches with one.

AKs do not have the same level of accuracy, and not all AKs are created equally. I have a Vepr that will do 1.5 MOA, Saigas that will do 2 MOA, and the average WASR I've played with will hover between 4-6 MOA.
ain't that the truth! Amen!
i have delt with alot of ak's i have great sucess out of my norinco mak-90, it hots pretty darn well, and the trigger is the best i have ever felt on any other ak. it shoots best with wolf 154gr sp's. put it like this it will tear up the 10 ring at 100yds on a 25 meter pistol target, and on a good day when i am having a good day it will tear up the x ring. witha few flyers in the 10 ring.

my dad just got a yugo underfolder that i haven't shot yet and i am very excited about and i will be sure to report how it does.

I have 2 original "krinker plinkers" Yugo paratrooper underfolders, which i dont shoot. But the fit and finish on them are superb!!!!!! I also have a romanian WASR-1 sporter, That i shoot all the time,it also has the underfolding stock.
For people who say they are not accurate-My WASR-1 i was shooting 5" clay pigons hung on the backstop at the range @ 200m through the original iron sights...Id say its accurate.:neener:
