Which auto pistol would you pick?

in my mind it's hard to beat a g19. that's what i prefer these days. i also like revos and 1911s, but the g19 gets picked most times.

Like others have said pick a few and go shoot them if possible. If nothing else go hold them and see if you like the way they feel in their hand. I wanted an S&W MP but hated how it felt and loved the glock.

My personal preference would be a medium frame Glock. Not looking to start an argument over calibers, I prefer .40 S&W to 9mm. Bigger, heavier, faster, and only slightly more expensive = winner

Do not get a 9mm! Not enough stopping power!
GET A 45 ACP!
Nonsense!

If you do your part, the 9mm Para will do it's part.

The .45ACP is a good round for sure, but you do sacrifice capacity for a bigger bullet.
And from a short barrel the .45ACP really doesn't perform so well.

I have been shooting a G19 for about 3 years will several thousand rounds through the pipe. It is a fantastic gun, but I am in the process of switching over to an M&P9.

I like the ergonomics of the M&P better, and I don't have a hard time carrying a full size gun (it is only slightly larger than the G19).

If you're up to it, give an M&P a try, maybe even a compact version. With that being said, I would also highly recommend a G19 as well.

Take look at www.best9mm.com as a starting list. I have the Ruger P95 and a couple of Glocks. For something to depend on I would pick either Glock 26/19/27 or Ruger SRxC. Springfield XDM shoots nice, but seems to be less "durable" and being made in Coatia is not real comfortable. XDm has lots of features that may break at the wrong time. S&W MP9 also seems to have a good reputation with local LE groups.

Well, in the polymer frame line the Glock takes the cake, if the 19 fits your hand, it's the one to go with...with you mentioning jeans and t-shirt wear, I take it that will mean sweat and Glocks only require minimal maintenance, and it's edges are rounded which aids in comfortable carry as well...

In the steel pistol line, the Kahr comes to mind for easy concealed carry, although with limited mag capacity and pricier mags...

Next, if single action suits you, a Browning Hi Power - but usually a little trigger work is needed to help it along which you can do yourself if you're so inclined...and then a 9mm 1911, maybe in stainless steel - capacity drops but trigger action is so nice and usually with better accuracy too. Steel guns will require a little more maintenance attention and have more weight to deal with...

Given your pistol size desire, I recommend the G19 in polymer followed by the BHP and then the 1911. BHPs are blued steel and 1911s mostly come in either blue or stainless...and of course, you can have custom finishes applied.

Holster wise, get one with a proper cant to help hide the butt of the pistol...inside or outside the waistband is your call...however, a flexible material feels much better inside the waistband - something that will form to your shape. Outside the waistband, leather still forms to your shape better ... but, if choosing the G19, Glock's own sport holster works pretty well on the cheap...

My bottom line is that of all the handguns I have, if I had to choose only one to have from now on, it'd likely be a Glock....but I'm sure thankful that I don't have to do that! ...well, not yet anyway!

9mm is the Best Caliber choice for what you want and....

I would make it a 4 inch Barrel I do not believe in going under that. Going over that is difficult in a Carry Weapon. $ inch is about PERFECT. Their are lots of Great Choices though. Taurus has a Great 9mm Full Size with only a 4 inch barrel. Based on the Beretta 92 Platform. this can be purchased at Buds online or thru your local dealer who can special order it from Taurus. I got one and it is Awesome! Here is a link for the Bud's so you can see what it looks and shoots like. Another winner is the Taurus 809 Nice Full Size but only a 4inch Barrel makes it easier to carry. The SW MP with the 4inch is another Excellent choice. I have owned one for several years and it is my Favorite Car gun. The SW is like the Taurus absolutely NO failures of any kind. I know CZ and Glock have some great choices too But i have no personal Experience with them.

Here is the link for the Taurus 917SS it is a Stainless Model which Also Happens to look Great!

Get what feels good in your hand, has a proven reliable track record and is in your price range. Asking this sort of questions on a gun forum will get you as many different answers as there are gun models. Everyone has their favorites. Mine is a single stack 1911.

I still steer rookies towards a Glock 19. I would prefer a full-size 17, but I'm peculiar that way. You can find G-19s all over the place, used, police trade ins with night sights and extra mags, like new, more than $100 off new price. It will do anything you need it to, at any skill level. You can change your mind later and decide you want to upgrade, but the G-19 will still be one to keep in your collection.

And don't let anyone tell you a 9mm is too small to work. Carry good ammo, it is a great defensive round. I am recently remarried, and my wife wants to shoot a lot. She can handle my 1911 ok, but I want her to actually enjoy shooting, so I will probably get her a G-19 or a compact XD 9mm. I carry a 1911 because the round and gun works best for me. It certainly doesn't make it the best for everyone. This is the beauty of a free country. You are able to go to a rental range and try a lot of different combinations to decide what works best for you, and then go blather about it on the internet claiming it is best and anyone who likes anything besides YOUR personal preference is a moron. :D

Which Auto Pistol?

I own more handguns than I care to admit. All totaled I own eight 9MM handguns. Also own .40 and .45 handguns...Sig, Glock, Kimber, Smith & Wesson, Springfield, Ruger just to name a few. With firearms everything is a tradeoff of sorts: A contest between size, weight, power, concealability (is that a word?) and reliability. When we carry in my state the weapon must be out of sight so size is an issue. Weight is also a factor for me anyway. Horsepower??? What do you shoot the best with? How many "A" zone hits can you produce in the shortest amount of time from the 7 yard line? In an actual shooting situation the distance is likely to be much less. Its a matter of personal choice. Don't bet your life on a cheap gun. Get a good make with a reputation for reliability. If price is a factor there are plenty of LEO trade ins out there at very affordable prices. Like most used cop guns they are likely to have a good bit of holster wear but many do not have very high round counts at all. In the last couple of years I have purchased six Smith & Wesson 2nd and 3rd generation LEO automatics...two 9MMs, three .40s and one .45. All are stainless steel and mechanically sound and all were in the $275 to $350 range. I've got a LEO Smith & Wesson 6906 and a G19 that I carry almost all of the time. With either pistol I don't have to "remember" anything like taking the safety off in a high stress situation...just point and start shooting! I'm a fairly large man with big hands. These pistols are large enough to get a good grip on and I shoot them very well. I prefer the lower recoil of the 9MM to larger caliber rounds and can dump a full magazine in around four to five seconds with the majority of my hits in the "A" zone @ seven yards. I use premium 124 grain +P+ ammo. Now we can argue the merits of the 9MM against the larger calibers until the cows come home. I will be the first to admit that the .40 and .45 rounds hit with a good deal more authority than the 9MM; but I can shoot the 9MM faster and more accurately than the larger rounds. I'll just bet you that I can ruin someone's day with a 9MM.
