Which budget 1911 would you get - Norinco or Filipino?

They will not work on Norks anymore because the 5100 series forged steel of the frame and the slide are too strong. They will eat up the milling equipment and they destroy bits.

This is the reason a lot of Smiths don't like to work on Norcs. It is not always the reason they give customers however.

Min,
I believe I would go with the Norinco.

I don't know why Wilson Combat quit working on Norinco pistols. It doesn't matter to me really. It's their choice.

I do know Clark Custom still works on Norinco pistols. In fact, last month I had Jim Clark Jr. hand me a Norinco that he had just finished for a customer. It was a nice parkerized pistol, with some of those laid back sights that are so popular nowadays. If there are reprimands going out to gunsmiths who work on Chinese pistols, perhaps Princeton Louisiana is a little to far up in the boonies for the tax man to travel.

I think it all boils down to what you want to do with the gun Min. If you want an shooter 1911 to occasionally enjoy at the range, then the RIA will probably be fine. If you are the type that will replace your barrel in three years, refinish the pistol in two, and replace the shocks on your car in two years from hauling ammo to the range, a Norinco might suit your needs better.

The Springfield GI45 seems to retail at around $550 now, and it's a good basic 1911 as well.

Why do people post pictures of guns....we all already know what they look like or we would not be here. Plus the manufactures have already shown the world what they look like in their advertising ads....

And for that matter why do they have pictures of girls in playboy or hustler? We all know what they look like or we wouldn't have bought the magazine in the first place, not to mention all the pictures of girls the TV shoves down our throats in every commercial.

;)

it makes people happy to share ;)

Because they can and some people enjoy looking at other peoples pistols. Show us some of your customs 1911 that you have made . I am sure many here would like to see your work
I am still looking for the 5000 Kimber you keep mentioning Kimber doesn't show it So I guess you built one picture of it would be nice also

Personally, I really like my Norinco. It has some new and different parts inside. I don't think I will ever part from it.

I put over 8500 rounds through my Norinco with no failures of any kind. Just monotonous bang after bang. It did fail around 8700 after I deliberately fired 2000 rounds of dirty Hungarian ammo without cleaning. It has been cleaned and is now one of my primary home defense guns.

Hello all, RON L here (FNG)

I have Ownded a few Norenco 1911A1's as well as now i own a Rock island Gov and I have to say I'd be happy with either one! I have 5K rounds shot in my RIA and I had a Gov Model Norenco I did 10K, I did replace a Lot of internals in the Norenco and I like the internals on the RIA better but the norenco I got for $150.0 used, I paid near 450 for the Gov Model RIA! Now thier was a Hude date Difference in those 1911A1s, the norenco I had was probabaly 12 years back? I say if ya can find a Reasonable Norenco in price get it, but you won't be sorry for getting the RIA if i had to to do over I would have goten the 'tatical" Model for $50.00 more with better sights and hammer I liked better? OH well, that me, trying to save a Buck and costing myself more?

I've owned both, a RIA and a Norinco. Still have the Norinco. I've cut on a few different 1911's using my milling machine. After cutting my Norinco slide, I began to appreciate forged 5100 steel. The RIA frame and slide are cast, or more accurately, extruded. Nothing wrong with this method since it keeps costs down. I made my choice; sold the RIA and customized the Norinco. Here's mine; I fit a Kart gunsmith fit barrel with an Ed Brown bushing. Did some other stuff to, but the end result was gratifying. This is 7 shots total, 5 are in 3/4" from a sandbag rest @ 25 yards. Yea, Norinco.

I bet you wore down a few machine tools on that Norinco slide.

Is that an STI trigger or a Wilson?
