I'd like to know which Canton in Switzerland has the most liberal gun laws or where i might find the answer to that question?

The reason for this question is that i'm moving to Switzerland, i already have my Swiss membership and as a shooting enthusiast the right "location" is very important.

If one would say that the most weapon liberal canton is the one where most people voted no to the new gun bans in 2011, then it would be Appenzell l.-Rh. (72.3% voten no) according to this site http://www.blick.ch/news/politik/wir...waffnet-166244 from this thread http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=574118.
But there might be many reason for that high amount of no-voters in that canton.

Thank you armoredman, i'll post some pics when i have found some nice place to settle down in. And it's not a new homeland as i see it, it's just an extra homeland :)

To Leadhead:
As i have understand it cantons are kind of like states, they control some local legislation. Today i read somewhere that the Canton of Zürich (i think it was?) has stricter gun laws (and still higer gun related crime rates than some of those with more liberal gun laws) and i also think it said that carry permits aren't issued in that canton asswell.

So it might matter, thanks for the response anyway.

Somewhat off topic...

I lived in Switzerland for a short period of time 35 or so years ago. At the time, every male citizen did a stint in the military (maybe they still do). Afterward they kept their rifles, supposedly in the event that Switzerland was ever attacked. Merely anecdotal, but a recall my Swiss neighbor showing me a pretty cool military-type rifle he kept in his closet.

I also lived in Switzerland in the early 80's and got to shoot the military rifle on a nice range as part of a school "activity" day.
Shooting sports are quite popular in Switzerland.

http://www.swissrifles.com/ talks about shooting in Switzerland and how new regulations are affecting it.

Aside, I was in the Lucerne train station ~15 yrs ago and noticed a young man, looked like a kid really, coming my way. Like most kids in those days he had the baggy clothes, untied tennis shoes, Walkman headset stuck in his ears. He was also carrying a battle rifle and no one gave him a second look.

Thanks for all the useful information everyone and for sharing your own personal experience in/off Switzerland. :)
