which would you recommend for buying. i like WWII guns and really like the M-1 so I thougth i would get the carbine. there are two manufactueres left that i can but and both are usgi: underwood or inland with underwood about $50 more.
which one and why

Get the one that's in the best shape. I don't know what you are paying but $50 isn't that much all things considered.
Underwoods will go for more then Inland because of the quanity made. Islands are the most encountered M1 Carbines.

I have collected M1 Carbines for a long time. I would pick whichever one is in the best shape overall. Be careful and make sure you aren't buying a carbine that has an import stamp on it. That will lower its value.

All the manufacturers are about the same in terms of quality. Inland made the most, so they sometimes are sold for less than others. Underwood made a bunch too though, and I personally don't think there is much difference in price on those.

other than future price due to less being made is one any better than the other?

Underwood barrels are said to be the highest quality. A CMP carbine may have any barrel after the postwar re-build. My early war Inland
has a 3-44 dated underwood barrel.
