For "other" please specify which one?

Looking for a flash suppressor. Not overly concerned with having a compensator as I don't want the added noise, but I've seen videos of the A2X not really suppressing the flash very well.

An AAC Blackout flash suppressor.

So you can pop your suppressor right on. :)

If you order a 14.5" upper w/o flash suppressor attached, can you then take it to a gunsmith and have it pinned & welded, or in that transit would you be violating NFA? Is it considered an NFA item if it's not on a lower yet?

IMO the A2 is the best performing flash hider on the market for the price, without an annoying ting from prongs that get caught in the brush, and with a closed bottom so it won't kick dust up into your face from prone.
Honestly, why not just get a 16 in barrel? If you have to pin something in place to get to the same length, I'd rather just have that tiny bit of barrel for an extra 100 fps, not to mention restricting future changes like gas blocks, or free float hand-guards.

If its faster, and tighter groups you're after, put that money towards some training and ammo.

Its not even a firearm if its not on a lower. If all you have is the upper you are fine.

Unless you really know what you want I tend to suggest a 16" so you can make changes. Overall I do like the slightly shorter gun though for various reasons. An A2 (and of course you need an extended one for your purposes) does pretty well and is a pretty good muzzle device, particularly when price is factored in. I have used a smith Vortex and it suppresses flash amazingly well in my experience. Some people don't like the ping noise (although it tends to follow a really loud gunshot so . . . and I wonder if the AR's "sprong" coming from buffer and spring in the rear extension drives them crazy too ). The Trifecta from Silencerco fixes that issue. I have not used it to compare how they do in flash suppression. Soon I will as I plan to use this mount for a suppressor.

If you don't want added blast or noise and want flash suppression I'd look at something like the vortex or A2 if you don't want an open ended flash hider

Does anyone use one of the combo compensator & flash hiders? How well do they work?

I have a Phantom Flashhider on my 14.5 Bushmaster.
You can get them as a flashider or as a flashider/comp.

You can't use an A2 flashider unless it is an extended version, the Military version is too short for overall barrel length.

As for putting free floaters on 14" barrels, that's akin to putting flippers on a duck.
It looks cool but does nothing for the duck...
I switch between KAC-Ras, M4 hanguards and Magpul MOE handguards. all work fine on a 14.5 barrel assembly.

The A2X. Works well for the price and if it has to be cut off for any reason down the line it isn't a $150 battlecomp.

The combo-comp/suppressors don't suppress flash well at all from the reviews I've seen.
