I would have to stay with my Lee set up. I have a single stage and a progressive and plan on adding a turret press to that. May take a little patience for set up of a pro 1000, but worth it. And it doesn't hurt the pocket book. I do have a Lyman 55 powder dump. But I also have 2 lee powder dumps. The Lee s are set up for specific loads and the Lyman is my go to if I want to try something different. To each there own tho as well as a gun brand choice.

To do what? You left out both Redding and Forster, both of which I would select over anything on your list.

I started reloading because I started pistol match shooting. I needed high volume pistol production right away. My reloading mentor who shot matches with me ruled out single stage/turret press and got me trained on the two progressives he had (Dillon 550 and Lee Pro 1000). When I bought the Pro 1000 because of economics, he walked me through the various "quirks" and I never looked back. Over the years, I considered buying 650/1050 but lately leaning towards Hornady LNL AP.

Knowing what I know now, I would start out with a single stage (Most brand "O" ring) and/or Lee Classic Turret press for low volume production. Both single stage/LCT press will do pistol/rifle cartridges. If I needed high volume production, I would then move onto Lee Pro 1000 for pistol loads and Hornady LNL AP for pistol and rifle loads.

Now when I help set up a new reloader, I set up with both single stage and Pro 1000.

I can't answer until I know if I am still restricted to using MY money or if YOU are gonna foot the bill? Also need to know if my actual shooting needs are going to change as well?

If it's MY money and MY realistic shootiing needs, then I will continue with my Lee single stage and Classic Turret setup. It is more than sufficient to both.

I am somewhat surprised at how even the the spread and how few would change. I did however miss Redding and Forster. I should have had an "other" selection. Sorry about that.

Hornady customer support/service is top notch and a breath of fresh air, especially today where this is usually nonexistent.

i use a lee loadmaster progressive and a little c-frame lee single stage, with all lee dies. i use lee pace setter dies for rifle with the lee f.c.d.,,,, and lee carbide dies for pistol with the lee f.c.d. for that too.

i have 3 die plates that interchange when changing calibers. the two rifle caliber die plates (.223 and 30-06) each have a lee perfect powder measure, and the pistol die plate is setup with the lee auto-disc powder measure.

its exactly what i would go back with.

I currently have a RCBS Pro 2000 auto indexing press, and I do like it. But if I could re-do my choice I'd probably get the Hornady LNL due to it having a case feeder. But it is what it is, and I'm not gonna sell what I have just to start all over again.

You seem to only mean metallic reloading as you are missing several major makers of shotshell reloading equipment.

For metallic, it would be RCBS or Forster with Hornady close behind; for shotshell it would be Spolar

Dillon 650 for 95 percent, and Redding single stage for small batch and working up loads.

If you're limited to one presss for all reloading, the Redding T-7 turret is mighty hard to beat.

You listed Dillon, which only does progressive presses in conventional sizes, so I chose Hornady for a progressive press (LNL AP).

For a single stage press, you did not mention Forster, which is what I would do (again).

"I am somewhat surprised at how even the the spread and how few would change."

There's a logic behind that. Everyone tends to like what works. It all works so there is little reason to change from what we started with.

I think I have some of every brand of dies every made, three brands of presses, two brands of powder dispensers, two brands of beam scales (no digital gimmicks on my bench), four brands of bullet molds, four brands of case gages, two brands of tumblers, two brands of case trimmers, etc. and it all works fine for me. Meaning, there's no "set up" on my bench, I haven't been a Kool-Aid drinker for any brand since I started in '65. I buy what I want from the brand that produces it at a price I'm willing to pay.

I own mostly Lee products because they are cost effective but I do like RCBS products and especially their Customer Service. I think because of the price my presses would remain Lee but more of the add-ons would be RCBS, even the Dies even though they are almost twice the price.

Poll

ranger335v......I'm surprised at the spread as well. But
as you point out, there is a logical
explanation.

poll

Kinda too general a poll. Redding and Forster have been left out and the poll assumes that a person has just one of the setups (what is a setup anyway?) I have presses by four of the five and dies and accessories by all of them, including Forster and Redding.

My reloading doesn't require a progressive press so I would go for the Lee Classic and the Classic Turret presses, their hand press for decapping and all Lee dies/accessories. I would add a couple of the Classic Lee Loaders for 30-30 and 303 Brit for making gallery loads in those calibers. Same for casting furnace and molds. The value for the money is very appealing and their customer service has always been top notch in my experience.

If I needed a true progressive press the field would open up considerably.

Unlike many people here, I do not shoot 10,000+ rounds a year. My primary goal in reloading was to save money. Lee Loadmaster was the way to go, and I would still go this way if I start all over again.

Poll

PeteD and others. Yes I know I "forgot" Forster and Redding. I would have added them if I knew how after the poll started. I wonder now what kind of difference it would have made. But once the poll start there was no way I could make the change that I could see. Maybe someone else will do a more complete list at a latter date. Sorry.
