California's definitely one of the worst, but I still go shooting all the time out here, both at ranges and on federal lands. I meet people who are into shooting all the time-- just made another shooting buddy today-- and lately am meeting a lot of people who say they'd like to learn, considering the direction the country seems to be going. Many of them are liberals.
Many of you may not know: there's a bill in the CA Assembly right now waiting to get voted out of committee (sent to the floor, whatever the term is) that would make CA a shall-issue state. Check out AB 357 if you're interested-- it doesn't really make a new law, it just changes 7 words in the existing law. If we became a shall-issue state, the only real gripes I'd have left would be the 10-round mag limit and registration.
By area, most of this state is conservative, rural, and well-armed. By population, it's mostly urban, timid, rude, liberal, and terrified of guns. I'm not really getting my hopes up about AB 357, but... well, who am I kidding? Of course I'm getting my hopes up.
